Post Will NOT be buying unless these companies clean up their act
There are very few like me who have played the Call of Duty series since it came out in 2003. I bought that game the week it came out and it brought the Quake Engine into a whole new light. People like me who started their CoD careers with the original game know how the game "should feel" and how that genuine feel has rapidly diminished with the release of each new CoD game.

The original Call of Duty had limited weapons, no customization and only a handful of simple yet brilliantly-designed maps. Each gun took an acquired skill to aim with successfully and there were no bs mechanics such as holding breath. With the release of CoD2, the feel went away considerably, but it still felt like CoD. The guns were MUCH easier to aim with and the game felt a little smoother...that was the only difference.

With the release of CoD4 (the game where most of the fanboys started their CoD careers) is NOT a Call of Duty game. This is a completely different game since it is very easy to aim the guns, there are perks, and attachments/customizations to guns. This is Modern Warfare 1 and does not deserve to have the CoD prefix affixed to it.

World At War is the same thing as CoD4 just in a WW2 setting. It has a much better feel than MW1 though.

MW2 just plain sucked. I am glad that Call of Duty was not put in front of this name.

Black Ops is just more bullcrap. Same blank...does NOT deserve the Call of Duty name...it was only fun to tweak not to play.

MW3...hopefully things are revamped from the ground up and the mechanics do not appeal to the young fanboys who hopped on the bandwagon at CoD4.

All-in-all, the TRUE CoD players have expectations of what should be in a Call of Duty game. After CoD2, these expectations have been thrown under the bus in order to cater to the masses of kids who suddenly invaded and rapidly destroyed the quality of the series.

I hope the developers really change their stance when developing MW3. I will NOT be buying it unless I see some really great mechanics that remind me of the vCoD 2003 days with my MP44 in Carentan.

Makes me really miss the rifle only servers in vCoD and UO...I'm afraid there will never be another game that even comes close to matching the pure enjoyment of those games.

Cant really say I totally agree,

I was a really heavy Halflife MP gamer, thats where I cut my teeth and although I liked MOH back in the day it didnt really grip me the same as much halflife and its mods (DoD) did, Then COD arrived. I was instantly hooked, thought it was the best game I had played to that point and loved it.
When UO was released and introduced a couple of new weapons and sprint I was in gaming heaven and was for a couple of years. I didnt like COD2 on release and as UO was so good I keep playing that right up to the day COD4 was released.

Now to say COD4 doesnt deserve to be called Call of Duty is just plain stupid !!! , It is one of the defining games in FPS history and to be honest it widend the appeal of the FPS gaming. Elitist single shot rifle only players love to bash COD4 because it left them out in the cold but the rest (and majority) of COD gamers loved it. It fully deserves to be called Call of Duty.

World at War was a "make do" game at best , sure it became half decent after 8 months of patching but suffered the same deal as BlackOps , too little too late and by the time it was fixes and balanced everyone had moved on. Only really remembered now as a half decent zombie Co-op COD with free DLC.

MW2, ahhhh the big thorn in FPS gaming side. universally hated yet still has some kind of appeal, I still occasionaly fire it up and with a decent connection to the host its a fun game, works out of the box and is a good way to waste a spare 1/2 hour , yes it misses dedicated servers and yes it is guilty of all the critisism it got and still gets but player numbers are still higher and all in all its still better then its follow up Black Ops.

Black Ops to me is almost as much as a let down than MW2 and IWNet was on release. So many promises and such a broken game, months of patches and still not entirely fixed, Activsion still see fit to charge us the most of all platforms for DLC yet ignore the pleas for help from its gamers, the way Treyarchs CM treats the PC community is appauling and still no promised mod tools. Even if they are released tommorow so what , no one plays on unranked as it is, let alone in 3 to 4 months when decent mods come out.

MW3, who knows ??? i would still enjoy MW2 with dedicated servers and admin policing, then again maybe its using IWNet2 . the point is no one knows . Untill I find out im remaining open minded and keeping my fingers crossed.

There would always be room in my life for the return of a decent Call of Duty game, I wouldnt write off a new game (that I didnt know the MP details about) because I didnt like the last one, that to me, sounds childish and illinformed and to call yourself a true cod gamer because you only like 1 and 2, well... same again.

I mostly agree with cactusjuice, that's why I left the cod series after cod4 (which I didn't buy since I was very sceptical about it back then).

And regarding vCoD vs. UO, I think that's a matter of taste. I didn't like what it did to the guns and the "core gameplay" but many did, although UO was generally received quite poorly in the EU compared to the US, so maybe that's where the different "gaming culture" comes into play?

But I can't agree with this one:
Quote:

There are no "true" players of anything, that's simply elitism. They simply shifted to a different target audience and left most fans of the originals out in the cold.

Not even that it's a logical fallacy. That's a no true Scotsman plain as day.

Quote:
Imagine Hamish McDonald, a Scotsman, sitting down with his Glasgow Morning Herald and seeing an article about how the "Brighton Sex Maniac Strikes Again." Hamish is shocked and declares that "No Scotsman would do such a thing." The next day he sits down to read his Glasgow Morning Herald again and this time finds an article about an Aberdeen man whose brutal actions make the Brighton sex maniac seem almost gentlemanly. This fact shows that Hamish was wrong in his opinion but is he going to admit this? Not likely. This time he says, "No true Scotsman would do such a thing."
