 Re: BFA's for 2010
There were sooo many fails. Where do I start?
1. Biggest Letdown - CoD Black Ops. The scripted storymode, copy and paste multiplayer, technical issues, and terrible customer support really let the PC gamers down. 2. Most Overhyped - Medal of Honor. The presumed "CoD Killer" could only dig it's franchise deeper with the release of this mess. (Black Ops is a close second). 3. Most annoying CEO - Bobby Kotick. The man makes billions a year and still wants more. Sure he had a hand in Call of Duty Endowment, but how much has he really contributed? We will never know. 4. Biggest waste of potential - Mafia 2. Although it is still a solid game, there is just so much more that needed to be added. No free roam and a lack of content have really hurt the reputation of the great Mafia franchise. 5. Greediest company - Blizzard. Now before you judge, hear me out on this one. When a company such as Blizzard is making $1.8billion a year, they can most certainly afford to give out a nice and FREE expansion to it's loyal fans. Instead, they slap a $30 price tag on cataclysm and release it to the masses. 6. Worst games retailer - Gamestop. Uncaring employees only scratch the surface. The lack of support for the PC is ridiculous. Not to mention it gets annoying to hear the sigh of the employee after you tell him "No. I want the pc version". Oh I'm sorry, I didn't know that you had to venture into the backroom to find Bad Company 2 under the trap door. 7. The biggest WTF - All Points Bulletin (APB). They wanted a subscription fee for this? It was an attempt. Weird to see a monthly fee for a game that was completely broken. The game has since been shutdown due to lack of support. 8. Worst customer support - InfinityWard. Mw2 was bad enough, but the lack of fixing that infinityward did with it's game post launch is enough to make a console gamer puke. Not to mention it had some expensive and worthless map packs. 9. Worst news - BF3 being a Vista/7 and Dx11 exclusive. Very sad to see BF3 being unsupported on XP. It gives me the impression that every BF game in the future will be this way. I'm not about to dish out $400 after being robbed $200 by these terrible games. 10. Worst trend - DLC that costs money. The reason it was once great to be a PC gamer is that we got a lot of content for free that consoles did not. But now it is sad to see a lot of DLC (expansions not included) costing the PC gamer some dough.
Overall Worst Game: Black Ops. It has nothing new to offer except for some cheap gimmicks. If you buy black ops, you may not be able to play it on your computer; there is no clear explanation as to why it doesn't work on some PCs. Even if you can get past all of the lag, stuttering, and crashes the story player is a scripted pile of junk.
What's a better alternative? Bad Company 2 and BC2 Vietnam. This is a solid game with a solid expansion pack, but it is less arcadey. Currently the only decent (and popular) arcade shooter on the PC is CoD4.
But let's look at the positives. Ubisoft looks to have cleared up all of the problems caused by the dreaded DRM. BC2 and BC2 Vietnam did better than expected on the PC(we won the battle for hastings!!!11! w00t). The release of a number of very good indie games. Many gamers have finally gotten the message to quit CoD for good. Valve has done a lot of nice work with steam, mac support, and L4D2. Developers finally seem to be getting it with the whole dedicated server issue. There were many games revealed in 2010 to make us forget about 2010 including, Deus Ex and Red Orchestra 2. Did I mention CoD finally died?
