Post IW working on COD4 Prequel
Rumour has it next that IW's next game is a Cod4 prequel about Ghosts past and includes locations from Cod4 and MW2 ? hmm sounds like a quick way to make a game when you only have 1 year and half your staff left. still I'd rather play a rushed IW cod than one treyarch took 2 years to cock up. As usual take with a pinch of salt for now but this is the same place that leaked BlackOps title ! , If this is true AND 402's recent cryptic tweets that the lack of pc support/servers was a mistake , then this could be good news

Quote:
Rumour: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Prequel

A source within the industry who has previously leaked other information when I was writing for Xboxic (leaks include confirming Black Op's March 2010, Naming Kinect before E3 May 2010, First Gears 3 Images April 2010, amongst others) has informed me that an upcoming Call of Duty title from Infinity Ward will not be created on an all new game engine, and will not be released this year under the title of Modern Warfare 3!

It has been alleged that Infinity Ward are creating a game that will focus on the character Ghost who first appeared in Modern Warfare 2, this game will centre around the events leading up to the war in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare as a prequel, and then further reveal how Ghost first became a member of Task Force 141 based on the comic book stories written by David Lapham. In various parts of the game that will focus on the life of Ghost - players will revisit locations from both Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2, but this time from a different viewpoint.

Although entirely a rumour - the game is meant to be in development on the Modern Warfare 2 engine. Robert Bowling (Infinity Ward's Community Manager) was contacted, but has neither confirmed or denied the rumours.

When an official announcement from both Activision and Infinity Ward is made regarding the Call of Duty title currently in development - we'll be sure to post it.

ill take Treyarchs support over IW's any day look at the support that COD5 got and look at the support IW gave COD4 and MW2 the support COD5 got was by far better, IW was lacking in support before they were chopped in half so their support can only get worse :)

cod4's support was top notch, MW2's was junk but we all know why now at least, after Blackops was released in such a mess and tbh the patches only worked for some, I have little faith in Treyarch. IW do make better games eitherway, just let themselves down with iwnet.

I read and heard rumors that sledgehammer will publish the cod for this year and that they use the hightech next generation Cryengine 3 which is being used for Crysis 2.

No, Activision have said since the sacking of West and Zampella, and the announcemnet of Sledgehammer Games, that this year there will be 2 COD titles - one from IW and one from Sledgehammer Games:

Going on past performance, I would agree "IF" the original IW team were still there. However, since the restructure of IW and almost a complete new team, IW are an "unknown factor" at this time. They may give better support than the previous itteration of IW, on the other hand, they may give worse. Only time will tell.

I do know one thing, having been out to IW studios personally for the launch of COD4, that IW have always wanted to do more for the community - it was only Activision that stopped them doing it. For example, they wanted to do more for us with COD2, but couldn't due to the suits at Activision stopping them.

Now, before anyone turns round and says that Treyarch gave excellent support for CODWaW despite also being owned by Activision, I would point out that the studio contracts for IW and Treyarch respectively are not the same. IW has always been locked down harder than Treyarch has because of their backgrounds vis-a-vis their depature from 2015 and EA, and the control over IW has always been absolute. So, comparing the 2 studios would not be the same in that respect.

I would tend to agree with you - IW have always been better on the technical side of things. However, now that the dev team is almost completely new, with none of the original software engineers working there anymore, it is almost impossible to gauge how the new team will perform. We will just have to wait and see.

Personally, I thought Treyarch's support of WaW was excellent. Look at all the great maps they released for it. They were some of the nicest maps to ever grace a COD game. And, of course, I know I'm in the minority, but I always believed WaW was a superior game to COD 4. Call me morbid, but the gore was a nice touch. Hell, even the killcam was better in WaW. Once I played it, I didn't look back on COD 4. Once Trey patched WaW, it ran better on my rig than COD 4 ever did.

Now that would be something! One of the reasons I didn't buy Blops was because of the same old, same old.

Cryptic tweets? I have not seen these. What are you referring to?

@ @twelve00000 Thanks for the feedback. I think mod tools are a great thing to have for any game we do for PC.

@ @eversonj90 I think anti-cheat / anti-hack is one of the biggest areas that needs to be focused on overall. It's rampant and kills fun.

@fourzerotwo If you guys implemented dedi's with a browser and a "Play Now" button, no one would have complained. Dedi > P2P for PC.

@ @eversonj90 Exactly, I agree with that sentiment, and was the biggest point of contention with IW.net. I believe that IS the way to go.

@ @f0dd3r Thats true for PC players who make a choose. Accessibility is about appealing to those who have what they have, but aren't hardcore.

fourzerotwo Robert Bowling
@ @f0dd3r You're correct, that is a great benefit of dedicated servers, a walled up safe haven when needed. We relied on Steam's VAC for it.

fourzerotwo Robert Bowling
@ @f0dd3r I have, but that doesn't mean it didn't serve its purpose of making the game more accessible, problem is it alienated some hardcore.

fourzerotwo Robert Bowling
@ @eversonj90 I can't speak to that as a company, but personally speaking I think dedicated servers are the way for the non-casual user.

@ @travis8352 Probably Call of Duty 4. Its much more my style of gameplay personally, less killstreaks, more straight forward.

@ @CrazyCanukk I'm sorry it comes off that way, it was a decision that I knew wasn't changing. Being upfront wasn't meant to be disagreeable.
