Post Re: yitch3.cfg
I will follow FoX's good advice and keep all the fluff to a minimum and just provide a config. I'll add the fluff later. I must admit. I love fluff. lol.

oh as a side note.

Last night i spoke with dk05 from IW. His config is really what started me down this path. I thanked him for it...then quickly asked him if he had a listing and explanation of all the client side cvars.

lol

he said he did not know if one existed - but he assured me he did not know all of them.

oh well...i'll keep trying to see if IW will provide the community with this info.

By the way...interesting side note, his config (which is included in the CoD4 DVD), was never supposed to have been shipped with the game.

Just goes to show you how stuff gets on released product sometimes...

Had a bit of time on my hands to try this config out, and noticed like Fox there is a lot of "fluff" that isn't related to FPS but more a personal preference ( hud etc). I like the blue console colour btw ;)

Also as I run a ATI card and a few of the r_ dvars arn't applicable. Since you are going to revamp the config would not make sense to produce one that only changed what was needed ( fps and hit reg ) but for all cards?

do these actually make a difference to Nvidia cards and increase fps ( absolutely no effect on my system)?

seta r_nv_fence "0 "
seta r_nv_fog_available "0"
seta r_nv_fog_dist "0"
seta r_nv_fogdist_mode "GL_EYE_RADIAL_NV"
seta r_nv_register_combiners "0 "
seta r_nv_texture_shader "0"
seta r_nv_vertex_array_range "0 "

I have done a few tests myself and found my system actually runs a little slower on Jock's yitch3.cfg as apposed to my own cfg?

Stock config settings 1024x768 @ 80 fov everything on:
Image
damn it looks nice but 21fps

yitch3 config settings @ 800x600 fov 65:
Image
stable fps 87 at this position in map

flash config settings @ 800x600 fov 65:
Image
stable fps 94 at this position in map - a gain of a few frames ( but I do use a few dvars Jock doesn't and picmip is set at 0 )

Since CoD will fill in the majority of the dvars based on player preference do you think a striped version is a better way of delivering your config?

I think that's a good idea!

I have added so many from the old q3 engine ( accepted by cod4) that to find the ones responcible for the increase may take some testing, it maybe they only add 1 fps (if that) and maybe only relavent to my ATI setup? I will try and make a list of the ones that prove to be making a difference - no problem my friend. ;)

Without a solid benchmark test its questionable at best what these results prove?

@Jock: How do you benchmark CoD for your results? timedemo? If so can I have the demo file to test on my system, its would be a good comparison.

Hey Flash,

thanks mate! If it MIGHT improve the FPS on my vintage computer even slightly then I would give it a shot :) BTW, I got an ATI as well (9800XT ... don't laugh :P )

I really have to say it is awesome to have you on this board. You really have a lot of expertise in this field.

Cheers,
FoX

It is definately about mouse speeds, I dont know about the cl_yaw thing.

The trick is to get this elipse which just symbolises the mouse speeds left/right up/down.
My server does not allow me to adjust yaw at all, but i can decrease pitch, what makes the elipsis flatter too.
Now I just have to get the sens a bit higher.

Nice find Puller... 8-)

See I don't like high senz settings personally and I also don't move my mouse any large distances to get away using low senz. By increasing the values above 0,022 I can reduce my senz but keep some control on how far I have to actually move my mouse ( small mouse mat - A4 size icemat ).

How does DPI of your mouse factor into this if at all?

The dpi just makes the mouse more sensitive so it does not affect anything.
You still have the x axis faster than the y axis.

flash, can you post your cfg or the commands that add a little to the fps?.
I have an ati card too.
Sometimes I have graphic errors like a huge texture just hanging in the middle of the map.
I hope this is a cfg thing (nvidia commands) and not my card getting too hot. :D
Its overclocked by default

I don't wish to move away from the nature of this post and its topic, so maybe if you post the dpi question to the relavent thread I will give my thoughts. Dpi is to do with percision not senz but it does have a percived effect on senz.

@puller: I use an autoexec file to overwrite any config_mp file made by cod - so let me de-clutter it 1st (to aid in carity) then I will post it np m8. Re your artifacts - have you test your card at all for errors? I use ATI tray tools to check for tearing and artifacts? I also use omega drivers and not ATI's cat ones.

I would like to add... My cfg was initially made from Jock's yitch2 and in my learning process have tried countless dvars to tweak my game ( including gfx card & DX9 ). The changes I have made may only effect "my setup" and I don't wish or intend to take anything away from Jock's great work. His config is more detailed and tested overall than mine with many endrosing it ( rightly so ) as a classic piece of work. It maybe that my version of his work may suit ATI cards better???? I have no idea as my system is hardly standard.

More off topic:
I was trying to install the newest omega drivers but in the installer the driver itself is unchecked and I cant check it, its grey.
All the old ati drivers and utilities are uninstalled.
Flash, didnt you write somewhere you use these drivers?
