Post need a little help fixing lag.
as the title says my have laggs. I've played this game for a while now and it never used to lag. but within the last 2-weeks or so every now and then i drop to 4-8 fps for like 5 seconds and the lagometer goes crazy. other times it just looks like a hiccup, just a single yellow line. I've selectivly altered my config_mp with some of the yitch3 config to get better fps. I'm not sure what to do now. I may just reinstall the game to see if that works. (after backing up my profile). My comp is an old Dell 8300 but still ran the game decent with my config untill lately, i just dont know what else to do. any ideas would be appreciated.

/cl_maxpackets 100
/cl_packetdup 2

also check for malware on your pc, if not malware something running in the background.

for diagnose: cl_maxpackets 30 cl_packetdup 1 snaps 20

These are standard values I guess so you dont need to reinstall the game.
Check if this dosnt ocurr with standard settings.

Other possiblities: server sucks, you have progs running in the background, somebody in your lan is downloading stuff (also browsing and opening sites with big pictures or vids), somebody in your lan has backround services running that up/dl stuff.

These are optimized settings when your connection can handle it, you will have a smoother player movement etc.
But these highest as possible settings wont cure any connection problems, but make them worse.

So I advice to try default settings and see if the problems come from the config or something else.
He also says that the problems might come from using yitch3

upper part is the server side, lower part your side.

on the lower part in green you can see the data that is uploaded form your pc or network.
There shouldn be much uploaded by the game, when you upload too much your ping is rising.
When the green gets yellow or red you have packet loss.

The upper part is the server side and you dont have too much influence on that.
Sometimes I have a yellow spike there periodically but I cant tell what it is

Going with the reminders of things running in the background, open up your taskmanager before you load the game. when things start going crazy, switch back to your task manager and see if anything is eating up ram or your cpu(besides the game) while this is happening. Then, ingame, bring down your extended console (shift + ~) to see if any messages or checks are being displayed during the fps drop. That will be the easiest way to rule out most of the normal problems and suggestions. We just need to narrow it down so these guys can really help pinpoint the problem.

i ran CCleaner, spybot and my norton antivirus so i think i'm clear on that end. I tried to leave my task manager up and check it out when i get laggy. Looks to me that the cpu goes schitzo for 3-4 seconds. today i opened up the old girl and blew the dust bunnies out, pulled the video card out and blew it off real well and put it back in. I went so far as to uninstall the game. (backed up my data first) and reinstall. My speedtest.net scores are around 6700 down and 480 up so i think i'm ok there. I have roadrunner but the modem died so i bought my own motorola and it seems ok, when i get laggy the lights on the modem don't go crazy. I think i'm putting a dent in this thing. I might pull the cpu and put better thermal paste on. see if that makes a difference. thanks for everybodys help.

have you tried checking the temps for your cpu/GPU?

well sadly my comp is a dell 8300. i think that the mobo lacks the ability to check cpu temps. the comp came with a Ati 9800 but i've upgraded with an AtiX800XT along with a PC power and cooling power supply, and another 512 of ram to bring my total to 1gig. I dont think that my vid card is overheating but i'll check that along with getting a program to monitor my cpu temps (if it works).
