 MW2 PC Optimism
Thought I would gauge your optimism...or lack thereof toward the release of the PC version of MW2. I'm going to try and monitor this over the next few days and see if it goes up or down.
The question asked is: How much of your needs as a PC gamer will MW2 be able to satisfy?
You WILL be able to change your vote...so as things change in the community - you can alter your optimism.
If you think MW2 will give you everything you expected as a gamer...then vote 100%. If you think the game will be missing essentials (e.g. /record, modtools...etc.) then mark down how much you THINK your needs will be satisfied.

I voted 100% because that I've seen signs that even though there are a lack of information around the PC SKU they will still release it with all the things that a PC version should have dedi severs and mod tools

 Re: MW2 PC Optimism
Given the way COD4 turned out I can't see them leaving out mod tools and a way to record demos. I do think that those features will be in a patch though and will not be released at the launch but that doesn't bother me much. I also think that we will have a few bugs even after the game has been patched all the way as far as they plan on taking it. COD4 still has problems even after 1.7 and we will probably never see another patch for that game.
So my vote is 80% mainly because I know the game will always have issues no matter what while the console version will probably get plenty of love and work as intended.

 Re: MW2 PC Optimism
What I've read today has depressed me somewhat. We're currently at 67%, prior to Ben's vote.

 Re: MW2 PC Optimism
I still think it's a bit early to even say what this game is actually going to be like. And even once the game is released a lot can change in only a couple of months time thanks to patches.
So really even if the game is a disaster at the release it could very well turn around quickly.

I have no faith in IW. I remember very clearly the frustration of COD2 and I think it is all about the All Mighty Dollar at this point. They don't need us or our pirate/hackers to make a huge friggen pile of money. I hope it doesn't go down like this, but I am not feeling any confidence at all. bummer, COD5 anyone

 Re: MW2 PC Optimism
Comment about dedicated servers.
Right now there are 1088 players on servers with name *cracked*, 3079 players are playing on patches prior to 1.7 for different reasons. With 30.000 online gamers right now, the above 13-14% might be enough to make IW think twice about dedicated servers.
To have more control of illegal copies and/or cheats, they have several options. - Supply only passworded dedicated servers (for competitive community) - Only Ranked servers to affiliates - Dedicated servers in general only for professional hosting companies - Others ?
I can understand they want to try doing something, but at what costs ? They should make their choice carefully, not messing with the hundreds of thousands of people actually buying the game for PC. IW should not forget all the good game admins out there providing great servers on their own cost giving other gamers a great gaming experience. The community driven effort (servers, mods, etc) are factors why COD4 is the third most played FPS after CS and CS Source.
So about dedicated servers, IW might wanna do something...but at what costs....

 Re: MW2 PC Optimism
ok Jock you got me to register lol.
Man this does seriously put a downer on things if you read in to it. But we can't all jump to the conclusion that IW would screw us that badly........ could we ???
I know that i have only got 4mths on the Promod S&D side of life and am loving it at the moment so to see this all go would be a disaster - no wars - no CB - no ESL. Server providers would all be offering Web hosting for like 50p a mth just to get some sales in. It would be a financial disaster for thousands of people. Yes they get the "quick sale" with the console versions and its easier to maintain, but there is still piracy issues on the XBOX360 i know of a few places you can go and download COD4MW from for your XBOX put it in and away you go online and everything so they can't use that as an excuse......
I know that speculation gets the community running wild but come on guys and gals wait for an OFFICIAL yes / no i can bet IW's next "TOP GAME AWARD" that they will provide dedicated support.

 Re: MW2 PC Optimism
If most of this is to become true in the future, i think this is what Activision/IW needs.
If they are able to fail, they will remember what PC gaming is all about.
I believe they need a true wake up call here.
If matchmaking was to be added i can only see them failing, and it wont hurt them as much as it will hurt their customers.
But i think it is the best solution for all of us, that they go through with adding matchmaking. It will require the PC community to come together against it, and force them to fail. It will require a lot of patience for a few months as we will not get the quality game we once thought it could be until they are able to fix their mistakes.
I voted 0%, the dedicated server talk broke me.
The freedom to play the games the way i choose is a gift i enjoy every time i search for servers.
I refuse to go the way of the casual gamer, where my freedom is bound by the capabilities of only developers and not the combined resources and talent of the communities.
I love building my PC and spending my money for the hardware to run these new games the way i want. Its a choice you cant make on the console, where you are bound by the limitations of your system and the code that runs on it.
And i refuse to be shafted by the team that has forgotten what community propelled them to their position today, i will never game on a controller again.
Call me a blank, call me trash, but i will never forget what pc gaming is all about.
