Post How to give IW the finger, own the game and not pirate...
Ok, I hate this no dedicated server rubbish, and no ability to mod just sucks.

But saying don't buy the game is a great idea , but one that won't work in practice, because lets be honest, we all will want to play the single player at least and probably will buy it on one platform.

So here's what you can do to let IW/Activision know how you feel:

1) Cancel pre-orders
2) Wait at least one week before buying (This will stop really strong first week sales)
3) Don't what ever you do download a pirate copy (as this will just give them the excuse of piracy)
4) If you can wait until the end of November, do that too.

It won't be easy, I know how long everyone's been waiting to play it,but every missed sale in the first week will make a difference and hurt the really important sales figures.

If the sales are more spread out, they can't claim huge first day/week sales to the shareholders. It's just like a movie, it's seen as a flop, if the first weekend figures are low, no matter how much the film makes in the end.

This will send a very clear message of dissatisfaction (especially if Jock, Joker et al can get behind it) and let IW/Activision know how really unhappy we are.

What do you think?

Sorry, I'm not waiting to buy this game, I am NOT buying it period!! The only way they will change my mind, is by allowing dedicated servers.

Now waiting to see if Treyarch follow their lead.

I've been thinking about this and to be honest I hope that IW stops making games for the PC platform. In the back of my mind I actually think they are trying to kill off the PC side of their games. After all look at what happened to F.E.A.R 2. That had no dedicated servers and that game died within a few days. IW can spend a bit of money now to save more in the future. If that's the case they are doing a great job!

Hopefully IW will step away from PC games after MWII is released. This will allow new exciting developers to come forward and show off their products.

But saying that it will be interesting to see where IW's ideas will come from for MWIII now that they won't have the Xtreme mod (and other PC mods) to plunder.

yeah lets hope ...cause other wise my clan like many others will boycot this game period...we are a competetive clan and love the ladder matches etc it's basically all we buy games for......if pc gaming is going this way ....ati and nvidia are going to hurt in the long haul...as we wont have the need for high end gear ....this is going to hurt much more than online gaming....
it's going to effect performance pc product manufacturers....nvidia, ati, creative, coolermaster and everyone else who makes high end pc gear...... think about it...we need all these companies to lean on IW and potentially hurt em back...
perhaps we need new companies to create pc games?

I agree about not buying it, I'm not sure if I will anymore, everyone I know was looking forward to classic cod multiplayer and now it doesn't look like it will happen.

But as Jock has shown on people cancelling pre-orders, hurting the important sales will send a strong message back to the money makers (and the people who think we can do what we want and they will buy it anyway).

So if you are going to buy it, please miss the first week. obviously the best thing is to not buy it until/if they put the dedicated server/mod tools back.

I can't believe they waited this long to tell everyone. I know a few server rental companies who have bought Windows servers and planned for huge growth due to MW2.

as well as screwing us, IW have put quite a few cheap server rental companies in jepardy.

There are quite a few of us gamers that are older adults. Saying that we often control what gets bought in the household. IW should know that if they kick the PC gamers down we can effectively stop buying their products for our kids. Its easy as that. What has to be conveyed is that our kids play consoles, we older adults are old time PC gamers and not about to pick up a controller much less play a console game. Folks in the end its all about money. But if IW cant produce a MP game for us in call of duty fashion perhaps the Medal of Honor series can resurface and meet our needs. Considering they make profit from PC gamers and the industry that depends on us, they are taking a serious gamble in changing how we play or how we enjoy playing. The idiots at IW still dont get PC gamers, where it all started. Granted they dont make a lot of money off a PC gamer group that buys the games and plays them for years. But,, I have said repeatedly and gotten lots of agreement that they could have made add on packs like was done with UO and gamers would buy them. This with map packs of 10 maps peeps in PC world would buy and they would again make millions. Remember back to when they hosted map making competitions and then included them in a patch? Where did those inovators go? Probably to another company. Now its time to find that other company and let IW die if it cant meet our needs. Still make sure you older folks communicate...we aint buying your console games for our kids. Hits them where it really hurts because they care more about the console then the PC community ... obviously.
