Post To the web cast crew
Could you do a web cast with 1 of the G4 guys on ????
Explaining how the pc community feel about NO dedi servers , NO mod tools ( maps /mods)

Some are asking for our story to get air-time on G4 forums. We all know how forums turn out.
I think it would help explain on a more mature level how this affect the pc community.
+ you guys do a great job at it

Just a thought.

Post Re: To the web cast crew
I posted this in another thread, but it might get overlooked. Here we go.

I'd like to suggest something for the upcoming Bash and Slash show. Get the 402 back on the show or send him a bunch of questions up front. You dealt with his superpunch very, very well indeed IMO. That might buy you another interview.

Then try to get some community and technical details out of him. Some questions I'm interested in :

  1. Is it true that IW.net will in fact not be providing any game servers at all ?
  2. Is it true that IW.net will only function as a matchmaking, lobby and server-frontend for Listen Servers only ?
  3. How much bandwidth does each client connecting to the player chosen to run the server use exactly ?
  4. So many other games have failed with this approach on the PC. How did IW solve this problem ? (they'll never admit they might not have though)
  5. What features can we expect from IW.net in the near future apart from DLC ? Clan support ? Eventual rentable servers for competitive play ?
  6. Did you anticipate the almost unanimously negative reaction from the community leaders , clans and server admins ?
  7. If so, did you believe the dedicated COD communities are so small a part of the PC market that IW could do without them ? (loaded 'uuhm, aaahm,no comment' question)

Post Re: To the web cast crew
Really enjoyed your casts this last week. Just a suggestion, but if you want to understand the thinking behind this nasty change to cod, then understand the CEO of IW

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Kotick

Selected quotes:

"If it was left to me, I would raise the prices even further."

" Kotick later stated he tries to promote an atmosphere of "skepticism, pessimism, and fear" in his company and, "We are very good at keeping people focused on the deep depression."

So all those modders who got employed to develop the game, guess how much they enjoy being there now. Perhaps they will do another split. Like the one from EA which was the start of IW

"In 2008, as reported by Forbes magazine, Robert Kotick received nearly $15 million USD in salary, benefits, options and incentives for his work with Activision Blizzard, of which $899,560 was his actual salary."

His behaviour towards his own people and misconception about the cod community speaks volumes about his knowledge of people. Talk of sentiment for the community which helped cod develop, is just not part of the equation.

If mw2 were to fail, or there were significantly reduced revenues, then something might happen.

Its all about money and that is the beginning and end of what this is all about.
