I have a really good question somewhat related to this topic. How did this guy disappear off the face of the earth? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMfTR8PBrsE

I love that interview. He is so relaxed and chilled about the whole thing. I don't think I've seen an interview prior to launch with someone so cool about the whole thing. Ok, he did not perhaps know how big this game was going to become, nor what IW had in mind later down the line, but just look at him. Head slightly tilting, half smiling confidently, voice calm and confident...he KNOWS this is good stuff and that it's got it all. Now THAT changed. 402's rather "eh, hrm, eh now look...eh, no dedicated servers but IWnet...eh, which will be so good...".

JD's output has been good too and although he's got a different personality, he seems fairly chilled about it as well. At least he does now...earlier in the year I felt he had some issues with what he was presenting - probably as details perhaps were not clarified or still up for intense internal debate. Who knows. COD is looking good this time round. Let's hope it's for real.

I don't think anything has really changed.

I think the p2p thing was a pure, unadulterated shot at maximizing profits. I thought it was a clear "shot" at the pc crowd. Either from ignorance, or just outright indifference, or even possible retaliation (for the boogey man of piracy), the outcome was the same.

Has Trey learned from this? Maybe. Though, their current "we have dedis" isn't really 100% truthful, and I've seen some serious "pr-ese" from them about what you can and can't do. And a lack of specificity on what you can and can't do on ranked v unranked servers. They'll say stuff like "It's 100% customizable, with dedicated servers." Yes, that is correct. They have dedis, and it's 100% customizable. But, only unranked are customizable. Kind of like how mw2 trumpeted "18 player limit" or whatever the ground war limit was, not telling you, that limit didn't apply to tdm, or ffa, or sd, etc... Double speak/pr-ese, whatever.

Trey likes to throw around new words like everyone knows what they mean, like playlists, or playsets or game settings or whatever it's called. Maybe it's just because I'm an attorney, but when I read some of their stuff, I frequently end up with as many questions, as I did before they said anything...

After mw2, which I bought at launch, I'm holding out on bo for a few days. In that respect, trey is getting some of the fallout (at least from me) for iw's mw2. Is that fair? Or right? Maybe not.

But then again, being less than 100% truthful isn't either.

They learned from MW2 that PC players will buy it anyway. Not trying to be an asshat here.. but how many PC players on that petition bought the game anyway? How about that "Boycott MW2" steam group that had half the players in the group playing the game one week after release.

The best that was accomplished from all the negative hype and hoopla over the no dedicated servers issue from MW2 was that we got them this time around with Black Ops. I have more faith in Treyarch than I do with IW. Treyarch really impressed me with CoD WaW and the way they stepped up to the plate with fixing the issues that mattered most to PC players (/record, http redirect, etc). The game wasn't perfect when it was released but Treyarch gets full marks for follow up. Treyarch interacts with their community (somewhat) in their forums too. IW doesn't even tell you what's in a patch, when the patch is, or even something like "hey guys.. we know it's an issue and we're working on it".

Money talks to developers.. and the PC community didn't even dent their wallet over the dedicated servers issue (and there were many more PC issues like mod tools). All the devs got was a lot of complaints from a loud minority of players. I'm part of that minority and IMO they would have doubled their money with the game if they had included dedis... but let's not fool ourselves either. It's not just the informed customer here (like us)... it's the parents looking for a baby sitter... it's the gamer who simply wants the latest game... it's the noob tuber looking for the next map to tube on. If everyone was on board with hitting them in the wallet, then they'd be listening to us more closely.

Well, as impressed as you are with Trey, we still don't have "dedis" like we did 3 years ago.

They are stripped down versions.
