Re: BFBC2's Offer of Dedicated Servers
I predicted this blank back in my thread of
viewtopic.php?f=74&t=1765GVD and DICE announced dedicated servers to capture the flagging and disilussioned PC CoD Market which had just gotten a big "f off" message from IW with regards their plans for multiplayer MW2. Anyone who doesnt see the marketing dept. behind such an announcement simply isnt realistic about how these developers work.
The announcments made in the beta news release were very bad news - For all the mongoloids that keep posting "HURR DURR THATS WHAT BF2 HAD STOP WHINING" please realise that this is NOT what BF2/2142 had - for a start I cant see many clans purchasing passworded/private servers I can get a CoD4 match server for a small monthly fee - pocket change. I anticipate due to server licensing fees and hardware load the servers will cost a lot more per slot.
Ultimately DICE are making decisions to lock down their code or are
"just prioritizing the player experience above the modders and the tuners"no mod tools @ launch

no dedicated server files to the public

= a limited competitive scene, weak anticheat, poor quality control, lack of variation and ultimately a game which as enjoyable as the gameplay may be will suffer and cease when another "flavour of the month FPS" game comes out. I have set my expectations at rock bottom so I wont be dissappointed byt a 3/5 star game.
there is a whole corncupia of issues this causes, akin to the issues created by IWnet - I am sure i could bore people to tears and write an undergrad dissertation on all the problems I foresee with these decisions
