 DICE needs to stop pretending.

Post DICE needs to stop pretending.
When Infinity Ward dropped the ball, DICE took no delay in coming to our rescue, or at least that's what they would have us believe. The game that they're presenting to us as our savior is going to disappoint many of the people that they were so quick to market to. They want us to believe that the jaded hardcore base that IW abandoned would love what they were doing, but lets face it, this is about more than dedicated servers. Here's a game with no mods, no public access to server files, a locked FOV, and a dumbed down console approach to the franchise that many of us consider our first love. I know I've played a billion hours of Call of Duty since, but I'll still always remember BF2 as the game that really made me want to compete.

So, here we are at the onset of the Bad Company 2 beta, and we're seeing a new release with many of the same issues that Infinity Ward got so (rightfully) torn apart for. Many of us would just be happy if they implemented a slightly wider FOV, removed health regeneration, and implemented a prone stance. Anyone oldschool Battlefield player who has also played 1943 knows why this is a big deal. The franchise suffers without prone.

I wouldn't be so disappointed by this beta if it weren't for the way DICE is acting. They want to be our new masters? They want to save us from Infinity Ward and Activision? Then they need to actually listen to give us what we want. Otherwise they're just pretending.

Make no mistakes about it. The first Battlefield game we've seen in five years on PC is nothing more than a port thus far.

You mean no dedicated servers, ridiculous unbalance, and matchmaking only?

Oh wait...

There are dedicated servers. That's about the only thing that they've been forward about. Sure they're EA mandated, limited access dedicated servers, but that's a compromise I'm willing to deal with. Seriously, go play the beta and tell me that it doesn't feel like a ham-fisted console port. It's fun, and I know many of the issues will get worked through for the proper release, but they're playing us, big time.

This isn't a return to form for the franchise. That's for certain. This is going to disappoint quite a few people, and if they keep pretending that they're here to rescue us from the offenses of Infinity Ward, than I suggest they should have to act like it.

It's all marketing.

and there were thousands and thousands of ex-cod players who just expected a better MW2 and hyped it themselves

True. But I'm a fan of both franchises and I still think they're playing us a little bit.

I've been playing the beta and its great. You cant really compare what DICE is doing to what IW is doing. DICE hasn't been pretending at ALL. This entire time they have told us when they wern't and were going to include something. And no BC2 doesn't feel like a console port to me at all in the way that MW2 does.

*sigh* what you have to get your heads around is, Battlefield and COD are 2 TOTALLY different games and need to be treated as such, it's not about who is the number 1 fps, l33t pwng etc,it's what type of game you wanna play.... ;)
if you wanna run around zapping at 60mph, no teamplay, just your own skill, play mw2, if ya wanna actually achieve an objective and play with other people and interact with them, play BF... simples.. ;)
both games have their plus and minus points, it's up to you to decide what you wanna play...
getting very bored with the BF vs MW scenario..
Rant over...
peace,pasties & zoider..ooh arr!!

I, for one, really like what I see so far.

The sound is STELLAR (even though its 16-bit)
Graphics +1
The destructible environments really add another element of gameplay
Hitboxes arent HUGE like MW or especially MW2

If they fix the following, then we have a game with serious promise on our hands:

1.) Prone....must have prone
2.) FOV
3.) Allow more options for mouse (toggle aim, etc)

big thing here... this is bad company 2 not bf3! so get over prone and get over all of it... its a pretty freaking good game for the engine's first time on pc. port? no... this isnt a port... read ppl... seriously. I started with 1942 and I can agree 1943 is craptastic arcade style (15$ game though its not bad at all)... which is why I believe dice is changing features in the pc version of 43, but we'll see. I think Dice will learn from this game for BF3, and I think BF3 will be more of the battlefield game we know and would expect. BC2 is a good entry for them to get back on the PC. Dice is also known to continuously add new features or xpacks to their games, and maybe in the future we'll see some mod tools.... as far as pretending; they never lied to us, they told us what we are getting on RELEASE DATE and thats their concern at the moment. BC2 is probably a better entry for COD players and the reason is it isnt a full scale bf game (32 max instead of 64, less vehicles=less chaos for the noobs). I think this game will pull many cod players into the bf series.

Post Re: DICE rock
It's taken me a few hours to adapt back to playing Battlefield after 2 years of Cod, but I can imagine for long time Cod people it will take a while to get into the rhythm (no offence intended, I just remember how long it took me to adjust from BF to CoD).

But I have to say if this is "consolifying" battlefield, I'll take it with both hands, as it really is awesome to play. The thing that has impressed me the most is the fact that all the action is compressed into a smaller area with the rush mode. BF2 with 12 players would have been strung out and pretty dull. This keeps the focus in one area at a time which makes it more intense - having said that, 32 players is also great :)

So to the OP, Don't hang it yet, and judge the game for what it is, not what you think they are not giving us.

Dice have been upfront and honest. The game is looking great, a few bugs but it is beta so enjoy the ride

Once the game is released you will see if it is possible to mod the game (Only Dice know at the moment), until then be patient.

Remember they are also giving a beta AND a demo, so you can play the game BEFORE buying and that is a great sign
