I just played some mw2 and the ping sucked, i changed game and the ping sucked even more, it was HORRIBLE...so i looked at whos ping was the lowest and guessed that was the guy who was hosting the game and i asked where he lived. which wasnt that far away, i asked him if he had any torrents running. yeah he did. and i thought, no wonder everybodys ping sucks?!

I played a few different matches and asked everyone who was hosting why the ping sucks so much, and everybody was like "im HOSTING????"???????????????"?"!!?!". I dont even think they realize they arent playing on a dedicated server.

It turned out that actually all of the people i asked had downloads/uploads running at the same time as playing. It seems theres a lot of NOOBS out there who dont realize they cant leave a bunch of torrents running while they are playing!

...i dunno, maybe they CAN upload a bunch of blank and still host a good server and the bad ping was just coincidental. i just thought it makes sense not to leave uploads and downloads running while youre playing online.

...iw.net usually works pretty well in my opinion but sometimes, i guess with people like this, the noobs that the game was designed for, it blank sucks

You'd think IWNet in all its greatness **cough cough** would be able to detect if someone's bandwitdh was severely restricted. **shrug

Now who didn't see this coming? Every single day I get several guys connecting to my dedicated server for MW1 who's pings are bouncing all over the place. Ask them if they've got a torrent running...yup. Meanwhile, they're warping all over the map! Was only bound to manifest itself within this game in an elevated level, given the nature of IW:Net

ive played some more now and all i have to say is blank this game. blank whoever made it in the blank ASS.
my bars are red or yellow all the time lately. i dont wanna play on a server with this bad ping!
and when i meet the host in the game. i see him, put a whole clip in him point blank before he reacts... then i die because apparently i wasnt informed i was in fact already blank dead before i saw him.

are you guys experiencing a lot of this too ?

Seriously I mean who the hell would run torrents or other downloads/uploads while playing an FPS? Talk about retarded I mean why don't they just join the game and stand around spamming shoot me! shoot me! waiting to get shot over and over...

The OP has absolutely got this right. I'm frankly amazed at how many average gamers out there do not realize there are no proper dedicated servers. I keep hearing "this server sucks" ...etc. I have to to correct people and inform them of the issue - and invariably, the host of the game (who of course has no idea he is hosting 17 other players) tells everyone that he's actually downloading the BeeGee's greatest hits collection, which could explain the stuttering.

It's no wonder IW can swap out dedis on us, they probably figured that the majority of PC gamers would not really know what was going on - nor care.
