This is a question I am asking, if you are involved with a clan and you purchase an UNRANKED or a password UNRANKED server, why do you buy it and what will it be used for?

If we are so locked down as to what we can use the server for (scrims/matches/practice) then it's purpose is pointless? am I right?

So what do we need Treyarch do to keep the unranked server subscriptions going ?

1: Allow configs
2: Allow fileupload / ftp
3: Match control
....

I was so unimpressed with the whole server blank!t that I opted for the 5 day money back refund.

Gameservers are unable to cope with demand , there is still network lag and basic promised server functionallity missing. no passworded slots, cant kick without quitting game, no player history, next to useless helpdesk. Untill all that was promised is delivered then the question of what is ranked and unranked is unanswerable. who want a server if the only option you have is game mode and console ported playlist junk.

If you spot a cheat/hacker or want to kick someone you have to leave the game, they know that so they quit out the game. rcon tool doesnt remember players unless they are in the game there and then so you cant kick them.!! you rejoin (after ruining your game) and so do they . rinse, repeat. and you cant have motd without the rcon tool running on your computer, how absolutly f**king ridiculous.
Tryarch have proved themselfs nothing but incapable and liers. broken game, broken promises.

as for upload and config etc. forget it , from what we been told PC_dev and JD_2020 had to fight nail and tooth to get the pityfull amount of "PC" stuff thats there aleady, We wont see any change to the Ranked game servers at all, not untill they sold all the DLC they can shovel at us and then MW3 or wotever will be out so its the usual codbo 3 month Blackout from Sept 2011.

I personally think that the Unranked server options are pretty decent from what I have seen. My clans Unranked server is a Euro server so I haven't played around on it really but from what I have seen there is quite a bit of customization available to be able to tune a decent "hardend" game play server and I think it would work out quite well for matches - but a little different that what has been done in the past.

Right now there are over 12,000 servers supporting at least 216,000 players (based on 18 players; not 24 so really more). So we currently have slots for twice the amount of the 106,000 players that are currently playing the game. I imagine that in the next months we will see a drop in server numbers due to the fact that many first time server owners just picked up a server for the heck of it but realize that it is more difficult to get it populated then they thought. Also, there will be some that just don't like the game. I think this will clean up the playing field a little bit so to speak and allow people to get a better view of where to play.

The other major factor is right now everyone wants to rank up and unlock everything (including myself) and somewhere around the two to three month time I think there will be a much larger shift of focus to Unranked servers. This may be just my view by I can't see myself playing on Ranked servers much longer than a month just because of the overall standard quick matches and annoying Killstreaks and Perks. I like long CTF games with guns and skill; not 3 cap games in 5 minutes with radar and helicopters.

I don't understand how FTP could work with keeping the servers locked down but then I don't understand how mods will work if we are getting the tools. Specific protected directories is all I can think of so that the actual server files are isolated elsewhere and maps/mods in other directories are only referenced in that locatation.

As far as the kicking and banning issues; just use the console. There are a lot of people getting bent out of shape about the GUI RCON application and while I feel it does need to be improved and features need to be added so it is more useful - people not knowing simple kick and ban commands in the console leads me back to the whole first time server owner idea. Why create the extra work of getting out of game and launching another program when you can simply type /kick player?

I have my own configs running on my UNRANKED and will be using it for clan matches and practise. I also will have to assume this is where the mods will be going in Jan / Feb.

should be what ever you want to make it mods and matches hopefully that is what we are getting
