A friend of mine is having problems connecting to servers via the command \connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxxx ( though console ). Yet he can connect to server through the game browser???? I think its to do with a firewall or his router. You guys got an ideas or had a similar problem?

is the server passworded?

also for connect commands, u dont need the / in front. if he can connect to regular servers through the browser, then it isnt the firewall. make sure he is getting the right ip and port. if port is default leave it out.

Ex. lets say its 69.4.14.9:28960

u can do

connect 69.4.14.9

if its non default port then put it in, ex :28930. if there is a password, then

connect 69.4.14.9;password serverpassword. if its all fine, then he must be typing something wrong or its his internet. it wont be a firewall that is blocking it from entering servers through console.

Yeah hes typing the correct info alright, we have been thought it about a hundred times. Very strange indeed? Also the servers arn't passworded either. It must be something to do with his adapter setup then, maybe DNS or NetBios over tcp/ip??

Or he's not getting though to the master server, I believe the broswer queries this to get the server in the 1st place yet using the console doesn't. Is there a heartbeat dvar in cod4?

I'm having probs concentrating today (bad head cold ); however, i think i had a similar issue. It was caused by my router.

For some reason this hunk of **** linksys I have, somehow decided to prevent me from accessing certain specific IP addresses.

Totally totally weird.

One of the ones I could not reach was my clan's website at the time.

I have not experienced this with my game browser however.

I didn't read your post too carefully but

a) Did he try connecting with no router (assuming he has a router)?
b) CHeck the router settings - make sure that it isnt blocking certain domains.

...wow, can i say router enough times?

c) If the answer to a) is that he CAN connect...swap routers.

Finally...

perhaps someone (his wife?? lol) has blocked various ip addresses thru software firewalls??

Shut down all Antivirus/spyware...yada yada software.

All I can do is be sympathetic here. I know how frustrating this must be.

Sorry to hear about the head cold buddy - Have had a bit of it myself lately, just makes me a grumpy (_!_) lol.

Unfortunately my friend is away on his hols so I can't ask him atm. I will indeed ask him what connection method he uses on his return ( router / usb modem ). Hes not technical at all and probably has all sorts of stuff slightly out of tune shall we say. I don't doubt for a minute it could as you say a router problem. My first thoughts were also this along this line with maybe a "clicked" firewall popup denying access.

I will get him to run some tests over teamspeak when I get a free moment with him.
