Please don't just come back and say "I didn't notice anything" you have to have some idea of what to look for and how they may work. Not all of these codes or my attempts are FPS related or even confirmed to work..!!. Hence the words TESTING.!

Puller is the only person I know here that has ati are there any others that have a reasonable knowledge of what I'm trying to achieve with ATI's?

Any help most welcome 8-)

update:

What am I trying to achieve? Well I think we have honestly got to the peak of what's achievable with FPS gains. So now I'm trying to improve the image at no cost to performance, which is a combination of driver tweaking and extension manipulation.

The above dvars are doing something to the way the game is rendered - no question in my mind. The most striking changes that I notice is in the particle effects so far. They seam more detailed and certainly more vibrant.

Standard config with all new extensions removed ( not the best place to test but it is my ref one atm).

Take a very close look at the tank fire and smoke, the second image imo is of great depth and detail. The smoke plume has greater depth and the edges of the fire more colourful and vibrant. Its hard to capture the difference tbh but viewing it is much different than trying to screenshot it - they are dynamic entities. The new extension make stuff like this more vibrant and detailed on my setup so far - further testing will be required of course.!!

Heres another - Fire just never looked like this before on my system..!!!

I would be interested to see if anyone else notices these changes - please remember if you are going to try these then do so at your own risk ( I am unsure of there effect on other cards) also please include your system spec ( as much as you know).

I will of course continue to test......

my system spec with no GPU overclocking CPU mild overclocking ( only OC GPU when playing - as its the summer here ).

hmmm have had a few BSOD's whilst playing so be careful and certainly a few artifacts.. :cry:

Also its a bit of the "rabbit caught in the head lights " at times from the brightness of FX. It looks great but is it the best for competitive playing - vote is out for the moment....

I don't normally go public while testing stuff but I thought I would this time for the entertainment value alone lol. And possibly to give others an insight on how to test ( most already know probably and this is for those that don't ) well how I go about it anyhow. If it help someone then great if not hopefully it might be a reasonable thread to read.

Ok def got issues with some of these commands, something isn't right and i'm stuttering quiet bad on high fx explosions and scene changes ( texture changes big ones). Big fps spikes / drops for a second every 15-20 seconds on the move.

What I have done which I don't normally do is just test a load of stuff straight off the cuff without trying each one in turn - simple answer just don't do it...!! I have a problem and i'm not sure where to fix it - yet? Classic just try anything approach never produces any good results - its not the way.

A bit of advice to those that just change stuff by more than one value at a time also. Yes everyone is guilty of it at some point.. Take your time and really debug the finding as best you can until you have a picture in your head of how the dvar works and what effect it causes one by one - and yes it takes ages and a lot of patience.

So expect a few of these short "ah feck" that blown it posts hahahahahaha. If you would rather I just come up with the goods then say and I will be quite. :oops:

Back to the where I was before my mistake....

The best way I have found to do this is use an autoexec.cfg file. This is my permanent settings file and any changes I wish to keep go in here. To go back to my default setting I just del my config_mp.cfg and start cod4, next I bring down the console and type \exec autoexec.cfg - return. Quit the game and then restart - hey presto back to normal...!!

This file like any other .cfg created need to be in the "main" folder.

here it is, as you will see it makes it easy to group and keep a record of such settings:

All of these dvars are either from the source code and cd, or from using a hex editor with memory dump during play. If you wondered where they come from that is?. NONE are off other posts or the net...!!!!

I think so indeed.. :roll:

Unfortunately I might be away for a little while, as I have a biodiesel plant to design and over see build for a friend in spain... But it should be worth it. ;) Not your half cooked vegetable DIY methyl ester rubbish either - real fuel ( B70-80 class)..

This is part of an enable_art.cfg that must be somewhere inside a packed file of the game.

When I tried the r_ati commands the game didnt seem to know them

and they are cheat protected
when i look in my console (shift+consolekey) I see a lot of cheat protected stuff, that I should throw out of my cfg
