why else would the setting, along with g_smoothclients, still pop up in console and be adjustable?

hmm well this game engine is heavily tweaked from what i have read and experienced. such an old command i just dont believe to work in this game. however since it has again caught my interest im using it and with -10 setting.

I would be interested if you could find a level that stops high ping players seeing you first , happens to me all the time when i'm the lowest ping on the server.

Yeay, not only me that suffer this. As soon as you play against clans with high ping they see you first around corners. So today its even better to have higher ping beacuse lower ping just make you suffer. It feels like theres somekind of builtin timenude for guys with higher ping.

Its fun because when you watch there demos they se you maybe 1-1,5sec before you see them.

its the blank antilag which supposedly took the advantage of low pingers..
and gave it to the high pingers if what you say is true.
