You don't actually need any third party apps running to achieve that effect, so for that matter VAC can't do a bleepin' thing about it since it's just tweaked graphics driver settings. And RivaTuner won't work with newer drivers anyway.
Al you need to do is to edit your lodbias setting in the games driver profile to a variable like 10 or 15. Don't know how it's handled with ATI, but for Nvidia drivers you'll need a tool(google it!) to export and import the SLI profiles(with drivers below 197.45 you can edit the nvapps.xml rightaway in notepad) and replace the line "Setting ID_0x00738e8f = 0x00000000" with "Setting ID_0x00738e8f = 0x00000050 UserSpecified=true".
Just posting this here so everybody can try it out for themselfs because on maps like Jungle or Array it gives one helluva advantage(and most likely unfair in comp), just look a these screens:

Speed, the washed out to the max textures are not done through a normal fps .cfg! I remember some older games where this was possible but you can't do this with a cfg - it's all driver tweaking. I can imagine that in a comp environment this shouldn't actually be a problem, afaik most leagues use programs that take screenshots of your game and people that use this will be spotted quite fast. Imho the more important question is on what basis one would have to judge a whole team that uses such a driver tweak? Afaik most restrictions are on certain .cfg commands and not on the individual driver settings of the participants.
Pub play on the other hand is a different cup of tea, I mean let's look at it this way: most of us prefer PC gaming for exactly those tweaks and adjustments to your gameplay experience! I do have the computing power to run this game at max settings with AAx4 on my 22inch monitors native resolution, and I do so in the singleplayer campaign, but what good does it multiplayer when a guy with a 5 year old machine can easily outplay me because he has turned off all his eyecandy and can spot me from a mile away on any map?
As I said before, this particular tweak was used in many games before and even worked straight off the cfg's(Quake2, Quake3 or UnrealTournament for example).

Yes you can do this on newer cards and drivers without RivaTuner. You'll need a pretty simple app which is called GeForce SLI Profile Tool, here's a link:

Once you've downloaded it use it to export your Nvidia 3D profile settings to a .txt file(just make sure to make a copy of it!), once you've done that open up the .txt and search for the BlackOps profile, replace the line "Setting ID_0x00738e8f = 0x00000000" with "Setting ID_0x00738e8f = 0x00000050 UserSpecified=true", save the .txt and import back the profiles with the above mentioned app.

Why the hell is stuff being allowed in the forums? If you are doing this kind crap with your configs you're CHEATING. Might as well just start posting links to hacks while you're at it.

I believe everybody should know about this stuff, fair and square to level out the playing field for everybody and not just keep it to certain groups of players. Actually what surprises me is that nobody mentioned this earlier because this tweak was around long before CoD.
Also, comparing the adjustement of a driver setting like "LODbias" to hacking is a brutal exaggeration. Some people tweak their games to get most out of the graphics and eye candy while others do so to get a better feeling and responsiveness. Besides the obvious visibility improvement the simplified environment allows me to better judge the lvl geometry and hence improve my avatar movement.
If you don't like people tweaking around with their games on pc I'd suggest switching to a unified console platform : )

this only works with older gfx cards, the new cards like my 580 require higher level of drivers [specifically the newer ones] so the minimum driver [197.45] will not work with 5xx cards, and im sure 4xx cards.

this will never be banned by vac unless vac starts checking for driver integrity which probably would lead to lag which would be similar to PB imo.


Leagues especially with tight rules will probably not allow this; especially those who require demos. Its a use at your own risk so if ya get banned its not by our will and we here are not here to tell ppl "hahah shouldn't have use it" - its not our game or our say.
