The red light(s) at the bottom of the 24 pin seem to indicate they overvolted the board on the OC. Think they are claiming bad GPU drivers.

If I'm not mistaken, the story of the video is that they OCed the 590 with the beta drivers, but the OC was in the safe range I believe. Then this happened.

Still, kinda heart-breaking seeing the board go dead when they could have given to one of us.

Actually, I'm reading that this is a very serious driver problem and that there are reports of many 590s who have gone dead due to OCing and then this happens. Would be interested in knowing more details, this was and is a card I'm looking into as my next upgrade.

The red lights that you see under the 24 pin are there to tell you when you have overvolted the board. Perhaps the beta drivers caused that on the OC, but never heard of that happening. The smoke comes from the board, not the card apparently.

SLI single GPU set up is often a better choice.

Yeah, I've also been advised to that as well before. I guess right now it's safe to say I'll be waiting to see the reviews of the GTX590 to see what people say about it.

If you get 2 GTX580's and run them in SLI its alot better and cheeper then getting a GTX590, and also looks more stable :( heart breaking video :(

Indeed. Both NV and AMD have had various problems with their dual GPU cards over the years. Probably not dire, but there is much written about it. Various hardware sites including [H]ard ocp have just released reviews showing 580 sli pretty much destroying the 590 and 6990 across the board. Reviews released today say the the 590 is essentially two 570s. Same story with the 6990. On the other hand I had a dual GPU card and had no probs with it. Still prefer two single GPU cards though.
