 The new melee theory
I think that in multiplayer you will be able to knife someone -if- you come up behind them. But if you are the assassin and your target turns and faces you before knifing the knifing attack turns into a melee and you duke it out. heh.
Ok I know it's a stretch, but that would be pretty cool. At least if you were on your game and caught your would-be assassin you have a chance to defend yourself.

 Re: The new melee theory
I know it's probably controversial, but I'd like to see knives come back as a selectable weapon.
None of this run with your gun up and knife in a heartbeat...
BF2142/BF2 had the knife as a selectable weapon which means you had to pick knife to use it, and reselect gun to put it away.

I HATE this Halo/COD knife that instantly kills, the CS/DOD/BF1942/BF2 selectable knife was a lot better, it actually took skill to knife someone, imagine that! Just another example of where PC games have "streamlined" to console standards.

It also brings risk/reward into the equation

 Re: The new melee theory
I love the idea of having a selectable knife or having a weapon bash that is not an insta-kill. It's BS when someone can 1 hit you in CoD4, mw2, WaW, Black Ops, BC2, Halo, etc. I miss the days of CoD1 when your bash would only injure someone. If they do go with the knife, I would like to see damage values. You slash his neck, he dies slowly. You slash anything else and he turns around and kills you.

 Re: The new melee theory
If they go with a weapon bash they could do it so that the longer you hold down the button the more damage it would, do so you could still get a insta-kill if you had the time

 Re: The new melee theory
hotkey melee has been getting worse in newer titles. I still think that it is way over powered in black ops. I will start shooting with an iron site AK-47 and they run up and knife. It keeps me from playing the game. It's not as bad in Bad Company 2 but still it is kinda dumb. Also does anyone think the BC2 knife is a little random sometimes?
