Post Re: Its official!
I'm taking this news with a large pinch of salt..

I clearly remember fourzerotwo telling COD fans before the release of CODMW2 in a shack interview.
That PC players could expect no changes to the way the MW2 Multiplayer had been done in previous versions.

From Shacknews:

Shack: By the way, have you changed the way multiplayer games function on the PC at all?

Robert Bowling: PC will be the same as it always was.

That was 22nd Sept 2009

And yet just a mere 4 weeks later he announced to a stunned PC community on bash 123 the multiplayer game would be radically different in the way it was to be run on PC and they would be getting no dedicated servers.
How could the community manager have not known in September that the game would be completly different in the way players joined its MP?

And quite frankly Activision and their COD dev teams have continued that trend of being "economical with the truth" with its PC fan base ever since.
Remember Trayarchs "we are bringing back dedicated servers" PR T-shirts..Mmmm with just 3 weeks to go before release they then told everyone "They won't be freely available and you can only get them from one company in the world".

No i'm not going to wait with eager anticipation to be dumped on again by yet another COD dev team.

RO2 and BF3 look far better games in my opinion and have been built with PC gamers at the front of the que unlike most recent COD games which have so obviouly been built for the ancient tech of consoles.

Well they could have public server files for UNRANKED servers and use p2p iwnet for RANKED servers. It would still be within what has been confirmed.

I don't know. I am just going to wait and see. These guys always find some way to spin something. I am not going to say good or bad until it comes out.

But it's obvious that BF3 has got them worried and they are feeling the need to give pc players some attention. Which is good news for us.

And Spawnstar, if you are going to start answering some of my questions, please post links to confirmed info. I want some facts, not what's happened in the past or what you think is going to happen.

lol, let the IWNET thing go !!!! its been in 1 game from 8 on the PC !!!! one , they tried it and admitted themselves that it didnt work !!!! I only answered your questions because they where easy to explain with common sense.

Server files for private and IWnet for public........ come on !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

Also thinking BF3 has forced, influenced or changed anything in MW3 is nieve at best. Even with IWnet it would outsell all previous cods full stop. the fact that its dedicated will only add to this. Why people insist on hanging onto some kind of Myth that they MUST ,not matter what be in direct competition as a PC game and is beyond me. both will sell bucketloads and both will break records.

yes yes, I share all the doubts. But they also said somewhere that this was going to be "their" last cod or the last cod on this engine or whatever, so they want to put more effort into satisfying the community.

We can only wait though, and spam the devs at twitter with what we want. The result surely wont be anything innovative, but I hope another fun game to play and own the multiplayer up in, with cod4 freedom.

i hated mw2 because of the locked variables like 65 fov, server migration problems, etc.

im glad to hear that dedi's are planned and i will now buy this game first (b4 bf3)

as far as those Mw2 whores that like "conformity of a pc port to console" i say... blank off.

Agreed. I think we can all agree on that dedicated servers for a PC platform is must but I find it hard to believe anything coming from IW especially when Bowling has a comment on it. I just don't think the removal of dedicated servers for MW2 was a big deal for him. I don't think he has much interest in the PC community and I wasn't surprised when I heard the news first from Sledgehammer than Bowling. You would think that something this important that would help restore some reputation/faith of him in the PC community would have came from him first. I just don' t think he is that interested in other platforms outside of the Xbox.

I am with you Butch and I am very sceptical about this news and have this feeling that PC gamers could once again have their pants taken down...

I didn't see anywhere that Bowling or IW said that IWNet didn't work. In fact, Bowling said along the lines he was proud of what IWNet achieved. There was no apology or admitting they were wrong for having no dedicated servers.

I agree with spawnstar. A large percentage of cod gamers only play cod full stop, IWnet, restricted dedis or public dedis. This is like saying wow brought out it's latest patch because it was afraid RIFT was gonna get all their subscribers, I mean please. Now let's wait until Nov 8th and resume this conversation. Also stop being so cynical you're acting like cod stole your firstborn when they introduced IWnet.

Also, yes he didn't apologize per se but what kind of entitled blank are you. You play the cards you're dealt. Voicing your opinion is one thing and claiming that a studio making an unpopular choice in a game is a cardinal sin, well that's another. Also, they did come out and say that MW3's goals are "more in line with the PC communites" so yeah. And they did say that they're using the cod4 system of dedicated servers, which'd mean public for ranked too. There was even a dilemma with cod elite about how they are gonna fit elite on public servers so I mean, I wouldn't be worried. Just doN't pre-order the game if nothing but fully public flies with you.

Honestly ? Really? you guys serious !?

Its dedicated server files, open and on the disk. run your own server from your own box ! just like we all asked for, We get them and some of you are saying "well F you , i aint playing it anyways" ?!!! do yourself a favour, dont post, dont log onto a Cod inspired forum, dont click on the MW3 link and dont post your poinless sh!t . this is part of the reason sites like this are grinding to a halt. get a grip , be a gamer.

This is a good thing for PC gaming full stop, If your a BF3 fan then It helps you too, untill MW3 got Dedis Dice had the PC market sewn up, they had you 100% no matter what, now IW/Sledgehammer have added open dedicated server files, now BF3 has some serious competition and have to work a little harder for your money .

Only the stuck up so called PC elitists would cry foul on servers, get them servers then cry for the sake of it.

Players will be able to setup their own #MW3 PC dedi server instance and admin w/ control over: game rules, setup, ban lists, etc.

Yes! Modern Warfare 3 on PC will support dedicated servers, day 1. You can fav or admin your own to control setup, rules, bans. #MW3 #PC

And a pretty good explaination (and well written) of why PC isnt in the Elite Beta as yet :

What MW3 dedicated servers could mean to Call of Duty Elite

For anybody who does not listen to the weekly One of Swords podcast, this week we started talking about what the impact of MW3′s dedicated servers could have on Call of Duty Elite. Specifically, I spotted this interview with Noah Heller at Eurogamer which got me thinking. He said:

We’re working really hard right now on the customised version of Elite for the PC, because it’s an open platform and has some challenges.

Hmm. While they both coexist as valid options for gamers, PCs and consoles grew out of — and still inhabit — different ecosystems. The PC is absolutely not a console. (Ask any hardcore PC player and they’ll loudly and proudly agree.) The PC’s strength as an “open platform” is the fact that you can make it do whatever you want. Dedicated servers, configurable as the admin sees fit, put a lot of power into the hands of the players, which is exactly the way we PC gamers like it. But when it comes to something like Elite, that freedom could mess up everything. You need to know that the data being reported from the servers is not being altered — which strikes me as impossible if the servers themselves are inherently and gloriously alterable. If the stats are cocked up, those stats are meaningless — and it would be an abject nightmare for anyone trying to run competitions based on that data. And that’s a big part of Elite.

The sceptism is something of Activisions own making..
We all know how many times they have been less than honest in order to sell their game to PC gamers.
An aweful lot of PC gamers no longer trust them and the PR they spout about a new COD.

"Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me."

Personally I no longer have any interest in any more COD titles because of these reasons and because the game does not seemed to have moved on at all.
Just more perks, more weapons but same old COD.
They have courted the console market for so long and tailored their games to suite its now very weak tech specs that they are being left behind by other rival game houses with regards to innovation, game complexity and graphical content.
The PC is now once again being looked at as a serious gaming platform by virtually every major developer and games are once again being built to suite the PC platform simply because it has so much more technically to offer developers when building a game.
Couple that with the massive rise in digital downloads via steam and others and the PC is quickly becoming the platform of choice.

I get the feeling that Activision have suddenly begun to realise this and are now trying to reverse years of very poor PC support in order to simply maintain a hold on their NO1 position.
As I said unfortunately for them a great many PC gamers no longer trust them.."What you sow you reap"

Even with this news i am not sold, maybe if people tell me it is good. I'm sick of playing COD4 with bits bolted on, and like Butch put i trust Bobby Kotick about as far as i can throw him :(
