 Major gaffe? Or intentionally done?
Where to begin: Most ISP's do not allow you to run a server on your "home grade" internet connection. With that said, how does that tie in to IW's recent revelation re: MP? I just got off the phone with my ISP, and according to them, a server is a server, regardless of what type of data it distributes - http, proxy, game data, etc. So, with that said, will hosting a MP game of MW2 cause you to violate your TOS, and have your ISP cancel your service? Quote: Additional Restrictions:
In addition to the prohibitions outlined in the Acceptable Use Policy, the following restrictions apply:
Optimum Online:
Users may not run any type of server on the system. This includes but is not limited to FTP, IRC, SMTP, POP, HTTP, SOCKS, SQUID, DNS or any multi-user forums;
Users may not register or point a domain, sub-domain, or hostname to any Optimum Online IP address. Moreover, Users may not have traffic redirected to the Optimum Online Service; Users may not resell, share, or otherwise distribute the Service or any portion thereof to any third party without the written consent of Cablevision. For example, Subscriber may not provide Internet access to others through Optimum WiFi, a dial up connection, wireless access or host shell accounts over the Internet, provide e-mail or news service, or send a news feed. Users may not copy, distribute or sublicense any software provided by Cablevision, except that Subscriber may make one copy of each software program for back up or archival purposes only; Thoughts on this? Could you link to the IW post please If your ISP said that, then it is tough I guess... A listen server is still a server, P2P gaming still makes you the HOST (you are a server, running the game for everyone else to connect to) Looks like IW are shafting the Dedi server companies, ISPs & The PC gamer all in one move, THEY'RE AWESOME.

 Re: Major gaffe? Or intentionally done?
The thing is, what are all these gamers ISPs going to think then they see people using WAY more of their upload connection?
I know that from my ISP the "unlimited" doesn't mean unlimited.......so there are going to be a lot of pissed off ISPs that much more bandwidth is being used.

That was exactly what the engineer said over the phone. He said, and I quote: "Yeah, I can definitely see this as being a concern. If you start a server and you start having 6-7-8 players at a time, thats going to hammer the bandwidth, which will flag your account, which will prompt action to be taken by Cablevision."

Funny thing is he even stated it in Console terms (6,7,8 people HAH) What if 20+ people connected, other than the lag, your account is going to be flashing red ALERT! on their system, not just once every so often, but if you want to play a lot, then you will have all these connections most nights, for hours and hours at a time.
