Our friends @rush_zone tweeted this little snippet of Homefront MP a few minutes ago.
While the video may not have that cutting edge, glossy look of modern AAA shooters, the gameplay is snappy and has been warmly received by many PC players.
BASHandSlash forums have been especially kind to this game, despite receving sub-80 reviews on Metacritic.
The current Metacritic PC reviewer and user scores can be found here.
While the scores may be lowish due in part to a relatively short SP campaign and a rather bland appearance, true hardcore gamers are looking past the cover...and into its soul.
Gameplay, the meat and potatoes of any shooter, seems to be the main attraction for most people who are praising it. The game appears intense and it keeps the mind focused throughout a round.
Checkout what BASH Forum-goer Gutshot Yooper said about the game hours after he started playing the MP:
"Runs excellent and with zero issues. Gameplay is decent, lot's of sniper
hell though in some maps. Drones are easy to destroy but fun to use.
Maps look good, graphics are good, weapons though, are like the MoH
weapons and "feel" like toys. Not near the feedback of say, BC2. No, I
don't like the weapons at all, but I'll make the most of it. Avatar
movement reminds me of COD though, nice and smooth. It is VERY nice to
have a game with prone again. Man, I missed that in BC2. All in all, I
think this will be a good game to play for awhile. If Kaos supports it
well, then there should be a good life in it. Should have some fun times
ahead of me playing this game. I think it's worth the $49 US price."
You definitely see the lack of finesse on the weapons. The aiming and shooting animations are all very herky-jerky and far too brisk. This looks unnatural and does not let you get sucked into the gameplay.
Though the game does not seem to break out of the usual modern warfare shooter mold, now made popular by MW2-copycats, it works as a product. Gamers are all happy with registration, though most would like to see their framerate a little higher. Although there are some bugs, it has given most players a sense that they spent their money wisely.
It appears Homefront is back-filling a niche neglected by current AAA games...that is, they are giving the majority of PC owners a game their computer can play well. Nowadays, that's as good as it gets.
