Decerto 2: Face the Pain
BASH 39 Show Notes:
On the 11th of this month, Christmas came a little early for all the Call of Duty PC enthusiasts out there. On that day, Infinity Ward uploaded Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Single Player Demo onto Yahoo's Launch Central and was immediately sucked into thousands of personal computers across the world.
"Fank you sah, may I have anofuh", they collectively said while staring at their previously empty bowls. While they may have been hoping for a multiplayer variant - most of the PC community was very thankful that they had been remembered and rewarded, by being allowed to play one level of the new game from this juggernaut franchise.
The game has been over-hyped (guilty as charged) and the expectations have been stratospheric. Perhaps, for this reason, the community's reactions has been mixed. Most have been ecstatic over it. However, some like me, who have been at the pointy-end of the hype for so long, have had a lukewarm reaction over it.
This week's BASH features two superstars from the Call of Duty community:
Rudedog: The founder and owner of FPSadmin.com,
a site which has been helping the community setup and maintain
dedicated game servers since 2001. Rudedog is also the author of
Rudedog’s complete RCON guide, Message center and site owner of
FPSgameforums.com, which is the old alliedassault.com site/forums.
Also on the show is,
Garetjax: A man with a resume as long as my
forearm…he has been a competitive gamer, he created the first PAM for
competition, he broadcast Call of Duty matches on ITG and TSN and he
used to do a weekly CoD Roundtable show on TSN and he is also the
driving force behind CoDTV.
I was very honored that these two gentlemen would want to be on the show and very greatful. This is an important moment for the PC community. Having been ignored by IW since CoD2, this is the first product that we have seen specifically made for the PC community. To mark the special occasion, Rudedog and Garetjax are on this week's special hour-long roundtable.
Here it is:
JY: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the FPS GAMING Webcast BASH. My name is Jock Yitch and I would like to tell you we have a very interesting presentation for you this week.
First off let's get to our fanmail
Dave aka frozen_biker from Georgia writes to us:
Hi. Please remove that horrible intro to Bash. The studdering, and rediculous
sound bites are completely annoying. You can do much better than this.
well...thanks for the input there Dave...and congratulations! A select team from our Consumer Relations department at the New Jersey Waste Management Group has reverse-engineered your IP address and they figured out where you live. They will be visiting you with a specially prepared fruit basket. Wow...what a nice gift from us here at BASH to you.
Oh wait...
My producer Chico is talking to me...here...

Fortunately, he previously uploaded his intro...so here is, maybe DJX's last, intro:
<NEW INTRODUCTION>
Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls welcome to another episode of BASH.
Last week's roundtable was so popular I thought I'd have another one.
And this week, we have invited some very famous names from the Call of Duty Community - i'm very honored to have them on the show.
First, off he's the founder and owner of FPSadmin.com, a site which has been helping the community setup and maintain dedicated game servers since 2001. He's also the author of Rudedog's complete RCON guide, Message center and site owner of FPSgameforums.com, which is the old alliedassault.com site/forums...
... I think I gave it away there...it's RUDEDOG
<RUDEDOG>
Rudedog is of course also an inductee into the Call of Duty Hall of Fame
And also with us, he has been a competitive gamer, created the first PAM for competition, broadcast Call of Duty matches on ITG and TSN, he did a weekly CoD Roundtable show on TSN, was one of the original driving forces behind CoDTV and he helped leagues like CAL, TWL, CEVO and Clanbase with CoD Support....
...it's Garetjax.
The big news for the week: The PC Demo for CoD4.
- Initial reactions to the Demo
- The demo is compared to the pre-alpha that Rudedog and Garetjax "saw" way back this summer
in Encino.
- Community reactions to the game:
Good/Bad?
Has the game overhyped? Did that lead to some of the luke-warm reaction i have heard - or is that due to the lack of computer power users are currently facing?
Here are some common "likes":
- Intensity
- Feels like "CoD"
- Optimized for a wide range of systems
- Feel of the AK47 and the G3
- The Javelin
- Nightvision
- Enemy intels
- Mission briefing
- Frangible objects: clocks, bottles, boxes, tires, cars,
- Sprinting
- beautiful graphics: lense effects (blur etc.), flicker around fire /
flames, rim lighting
- car explosions
- flashbang nades
- corrugated metal sheets (bullets go through incl. impact marks)
- all rocket lunchers and explosives
- ai teammates doorkick etc.
- good bump mapping
Common dislikes:
- the linearity of the gameplay
- In SP: action-dependence on the player
- CoD2 sounds
- Ragdoll physics needs tweaking
- Muted weapon sounds
- No recoil on most SP guns
- Players jump too high.
- No bashing: meele attack is a knife (screen wobbles a bit...but very
unimpressive)
Continuing on from last week (briefly): Is IW still listening to the CoD community? Does the release of the CoD4 Demo prove Tally wrong in this regard?
What are the major community issues remaining (now that the specs and the SP demo have come out?)
e.g.
Anyone heard about dedicated servers - and the ability to configure these servers?
Spectator mode for webcasting?
Will MP play as well as SP?
MP Gametypes.
Ranking and Class based systems in PC MP?
Will IW release a Dev Pack?
Will modding/mapping be as easy as CoD2?
Discuss 'Hardcore Mode,': IW's foray in competitive gaming (ie.increased weapon damage, no HUD, etc.). Apparently, IW has added a "Half-time" - as found in PAM - for objective based game types.
Will IW include "CoDTV?" in the full game?
