BASH 66: NERV Damage
Written by jockyitch

BASH 66 comes on the heels of one of the hottest CoD4 LAN's ever held in North America: NERV #2. To talk to us about what happened at NERV #2 are BASH Call of Duty Hall of Famer, Joe "NABORE" Amorosa and Ted "Sang" Ottey.

Joe and Ted are both from the legendary CoD gaming squad, Team Pandemic. Joe is the team captain and heart of the team. Ted is media liaison for Pandemic and a senior staffer at the online tournament CEVO.

This episode might go down as one of the best we have done on BASH. The anguish in Nabore's voice is audible as he describes how his team valiantly trained for the inevitable showdown with the Evil Geniuses, but came up just short.

We also have a few scoops on the program.

- Nabore tells us about what he think may put him over the top against EG and describes how he is busy setting things right, before TP heads off to the European LAN's. Yes...TP is officially going to a few European LAN's this summer...so to our European listeners: lock up your sisters, Ted is going there as well!

- Nabore talks about what he told Wantsome (E-Rev Shoutcaster at NERV #2) that "would change this game forever". If you're a competitive player...this just might give you the edge next time you play on mp_strike. You have to hear this strat to believe it!

- CEVO is thinking of changing it's ruleset as PAM IV is apparently not being supported. "promod" might be replacing it!

- Finally, CoDTV will undergo a feasibility study during the Memorial Day weekend. However, the major developers are still not interested. What should we do as a community? My suggestion: a massive email campaign.

SHOW NOTES:

BASH 67

NERV Damage

Ladies and Gentlemen Boys and girls welcome to BASH. My name is Jock Yitch. Today we devote the show to the competitive gaming scene as they put on a heck of a show a few weeks ago in a large LAN event, called NERV#2.

With us from that event are:

Joe Amorosa, aka Nabore: Team Captain from Team Pandemic
Ted Ottey, aka Sang: Media Liaison from Team Pandemic and CEVO Staff member

you can look up both of them at teampandemic.net

1. You're all back from NERV #2, one of the largest CoD4 LAN's held this year and featured some of the best guns in the game.

a) What is NERV and why is it important?
b) Where is it located?

...Why would anyone put a LAN tournament in the middle of nowhere (apologies to Pennsylvanians out there).

c) How many teams were scheduled to play?

d) Who was favored?

e) Ted, you went down there to play and to report on the matches. Who did you play for?

2.
a) What are facilities there like?
b) Do you get to practice on the computers before you play? (did you have to pay to practice beforehand?).
c) Could you bring your own configs?
d) Joe, you are one of the best Team leaders in FPS gaming, you're teams are always ready for a fight.

Describe what TP did to prepare for this LAN?

nerv3.jpg

e) You guys had lost CEVO to EG...did you guys feel like you were the underdogs...How was the mood going into this LAN?

3. One of the great things about NERV#2 was that E-Rev TV was there to do the shout casting with their live stream. And the face of E-REV, Wantsome, was there the whole time.

nerv2.jpg

a) Were people at the LAN aware of E-Rev? Did it affect play?

4.
a) What were some of the match highlights of the weekend for you?
b) What teams or players surprised you?
c) What teams or players disappointed?

5.
Pandemic cruised past the Pwnstars, and a brave Minuteman team in Group 1 action.

You met the Evil Geniuses formerly the Doctors and the team that beat you in the CEVO-P finals in the NERV Grand Finals.

a) The first decision to make was to select your map choice. EG picked citystreets and you picked vacant.  Why did you pick vacant. Normally you guys play mp_strike.

b) EG selected citystreets...frankly i figured them to pick Crash, how did you react to this choice by EG?

6.
a) Describe the contest (EG vs. TP). What were the turning points?

The winner went into the final, the loser had to fight MoBDeep to get into the big show.

GRAND FINAL:

mp_citystreets: 1-11; 6-2 (EG Choice)
mp_vacant: 9-3; 4-6 (TP Choice)

b) What did EG do right or TP do wrong?

7.
a) You lost to EG in CEVO-P as well. In some ways this might be a good thing. In COD2 you guys were unassailable. Now you have a goal. Do you think this could actually be good for your team...keep them working hard and staying focused?

b) Do you have any plans to change things up for the next time you see them.

8.  Was NERV a success?

9. Where are we with CoD4 Competitive gaming?

- Is the Euro competitive scene in CoD4 better than in NA? If so why?

- Talking to some well placed sources in Activision's organization, it appears CoDTV is not something they are interested in. The general game-buyer is not clamoring for it.

- Talked to Garetjax...he's doing a feasibility study on CoDTV. Does anyone still care?

- Is PAM IV going to be shoved aside by Raf1's promod ?

- Will CoD4 whither away like CoD2 did when WW comes out?

10. What will you folks be doing this summer?

- will TP LAN in Europe?

You can read the details of the NERV #2 event in Ted Ottey's posts on teampandemic.net:
