CoD4 Heat of Battle Online-Mod Development Team leader, Tony (aka British Bulldog1) posted this breaking announcement on his site, heatofbattle.net today:

It is with pleasure and delight that I bring great news to the Heat of Battle.

Today see's the official announcement of a pairing between the Heat of Battle and the new Eastern Crisis competition: ctagames.net

After various discussions with the Eastern Crisis team and with the correction to the HoB scoring update (thank you Upholder), the Heat of Battle mod is going to be the focus of competitive gameplay for Eastern Crisis within their Call of Duty 4 campaign, the first of which will be starting next Saturday 19th July 2008.

- BritishBulldog1

Tony's announcement was the culmination of very hard work by two independent teams in our CoD community.

The first team, made up of the Heat of Battle Mod development staff (led by BritishBulldog1) took the Heat of Battle Mod, a gametype that was originally made for the original CoD and CoD UO games and ported it to CoD4. The result: Heat of Battle for CoD4 (HoB4).

The second team consists of Luke (aka MajorD), the administrator of a new campaign-style CoD4 online tournament Call to Arms, ctagames.net, and his colleagues.

The end result of this hard work has resulted in the merging of both team's products:  A new online tournament called Call to Arms: Eastern Crisis which will use the HoB4 gametype.

In anticipation of this announcement, I got together with both Tony and Luke to discuss the HoB4 mod and Call to Arms: Eastern Crisis the tournament.

Show Notes:

Ladies and Gentlemen Boys and Girls welcome to BASH, I'm Jock Yitch.

On this week's program, to talk about a new Call of Duty 4 gametype mod that had its origins way back in the original CoD days...is a gentleman that is no stranger to BASH....let me introduce the senior moderator on Codboards.com, and Heat of Battle Development Team leader for Heat of Battle for CoD4, also known as HoB4, which can be found at heatofbattle.net, it's: Tony (aka British Bulldog1)

Tony has brought along with him a special guest today who will be telling us about an interesting pairing between HoB4 and a new tournament based on this great team gametype.

Luke (aka MajorD), tournament administrator of "Call To Arms: Eastern Crisis"  which can be found at ctagames.net

BS: Tony, we had you on way back in September last year on BASH 36, where you took us back in time to ....way back to Christmas of 2003. You described in retrospective fashion, a mod that was in essence, the first total-conversion of the original Call of Duty game. That mod was called: the Heat of Battle Mod.

At that time you started talking about the fact that you might be thinking about bringing HoB right up into the present by putting together a team to mod it into Activision's latest title : little game called CoD4.

a) When did you finally decide definitively to get involved into porting HoB into CoD4? I know you had the idea before CoD4 hit the shelves?

b) You had boycotted CoD2, what made you think that CoD4 would be good enough for you to commit to becoming the dev team leader responsible for getting HoB into CoD4?

c) As i mentioned as a player and consumer you went from CoD and CoD-UO straight into CoD4...skipping right over CoD2.

What was your initial reaction when you started playing CoD4? Did you like the game?

BS:

a) Give us a quick understanding of what Heat of Battle 4 mod is all about.

b) The original HoB was a total conversion. How do you describe HoB4? You haven't changed the any of the team avatars or uniforms have you?

c) What are the main features of the mod:

d) Who worked on this mod (major players only please).

BS: What is the status of the mod?

BS: In my opinion HoB sounds like one of the bes team games devised -- not just for CoD4 but for any FPS. Luke, let's bring you in right now. You are  the administrator of a tournament site called ctagames.net and you were on the hunt for a new game to base a new tournament around ... first off, you picked up CoD4 ... and now you have apparently selected Heat of Battle as the gametype of choice for that tournament.
a) Why HOB4? Why not CTF, or simply use plain-vanilla Domination?

b) Give us a quick summary of your relationship here with BB1. What is going on with this collaboration.

BS: Luke, tell us about where the idea of "Call To Arms:Eastern Crisis" comes from?

A Call To Arms was originally created to hide the development of a new Day Of Defeat Source tournament named Victory in Europe, by a group of disgruntled players in the now defunct Battle for Europe tournament.

BS: Tony...what was DoD source?

BS: Luke, at some point you decided to look for a new game to feature on your tournaments, give us that story.

BS: Why did you choose HoB4, had you tried other gametypes?

BS: Luke,

a) How do you plan on growing the tournament?

The aim is to get CLAN LEADERS interested in the tourny, and from them pull in there community members.

b) What will set you apart from all the campaign-style tournaments in the CoD landscape?

The important and unique thing about our tournys which sets us apart from everyone else is that its run by the players for the players. I myself started out as a community member playing Day Of Defeat, and now I am a TA who was and still is heavily involved in the development of this tourney.

BS:  Luke, what's the next step? When is Call of Duty: Eastern Crisis tournament starting? Or has it started?

BS: Tony, what is going on with the development of HoB4? What have you got planned for the mod?

BS: Everyone, is there any interest in the upcoming CoD: WW?

You can find support for HoB4 at : codboards.com and heatofbattle.net
