Punk Buster Punked Again
Netcoders, a hacker website, has allegedly let the world know all about a hole in Even Balance's Punk Buster. Read this forum post on FPSAdmin.com.
We here at BASHandSlash.com were alerted of this exploit by a sharp-eyed reader of our blog and we used Twitter to immediately let everyone know about this issue.
In essence, someone from Netcoders allegedly leased a server (apparently in Switzerland) and subscribed to a well-known Punk Buster streaming site. A streaming site is a group of community watchdogs that are fed real-time server data which they use to enhance Punk Buster's overwatch capabilities. The hackers allegedly found a hole in Punk Buster itself, that allowed them to upload false data through the anti-cheat sites which then went on to pollute the Punk Buster Master Ban Index. This data effectively banned eighty innocent Spanish Battlefield gamer GUIDs from any PB enabled server.
One community admin who did not want to be identified had this to say about this issue:
"If you run a normal server with PB, you aren't vulnerable to anything, normally you have to be an authorized master ban list admin . It is definitely a problem, but it's not like every server that runs PB is vulnerable to some sort of massive hack or ban attack...just dont play on a server unless you know here it's coming from.
And even still, if you get banned, you're just banned from servers that use the MBI. You have to specifically configure your server to use the MBI and the vast majority of server admins dont bother with that. They just run their server with stock PB, which wont be affected by this.
Well it's the only salvation to the debacle...if these points were false, EvenBalance would have a much larger issue"
Fourzerotwo, over and out?
Lately there have been a lot of rumors regarding Robert Bowling, Fourzerotwo, the Communications Director at Infinity Ward that suggest that he is leaving.
The rumor comes from an open position posted at IW's site for a Marketing Manager.
As opposed to our guests, my own opinion is that Fourzerotwo is not going out...he's going up. While he has been a complete bust in the PC community (he's an XBox guy), he very well may be getting a team or department for his yeoman work at IW. Our guess is that IW may be hiring for his old position.

MoD Tools Out of the Box
We have been hearing rumors that Sparks (Alex) from the old CoD2 modding community is currently working on the mod tools for Treyarch's Call of Duty: World at War. The rumor is that the tools will be available when the game drops.
New CoD in 2009 from IW
The official news that there will be a new IW CoD game for 2009 has broken.
