BASH 89: GTactix
Written by jockyitch
Tuesday, 09 December 2008

This is the first half of the marathon recording session we had on Sunday the 7th of December.

Far from infamous, that date will be warmly remembered in the annals of BASH as "The day of the two Joshes".

In the first of two episodes recorded that day, which we pared down to half an hour, we present the fabulous strat program GTactix. It was developed by the west-coast gaming enthusiast and ace programmer Josh, aka VR6R.

VR6R comes on our live webcast to describe how to use his now-famous drawing package for experienced and wannabe online-strategists.

The usual group was in our roundtable on that date: PST*Joker from mycallofduty.com, Rudedog from fpsadmin.com and of course Garetjax from codtv.tv.

Later in that session we had JD2020 from Treyarch on the program. You will be able to download that interview, which will be found in BASH 90, soon!

We have done a review of GTactix and you can view it here.

SHOW NOTES

Welcome to the program Josh.

1. A few weeks ago, I was talking to someone about strats in CoD and they showed me your site and they told me to download the program on there called gtactix. I thought it was awesome, and really filled a unique niche.

a) What is gtactix all about?
b) Where did the idea come from? Why did you feel that you needed to make something like this?
c) Did you program the code for gtactix all by yourself?

2. Can you briefly explain how it works.

a) Where do you get the maps to use as a baseline to draw on? For example, do you have CoD maps - or do i have to supply them?b) Do you absolutely need .NET to run it?

3. I understand how you can create stand alone strat maps with it - but you can also go online and host tutorial strat sessions.

a) How many people can connect
b) Is it interactive, or can there only be one person illustrating the map at one time.

4. Do you like making strats yourself? What games do YOU play? Give us a gaming biography.

5. Did you think it would be adopted as quickly as it has? After all you have over 100,000 downloads.

6. Can you give us a bit of a demo on how the thing works.

7. You have a new release coming out soon? What have you got in store for the program.
