Hey all,
Im going to call
it a day with my Promod projects - I gave it a decent bash and thought
it would work, but with no /record function until January confirmed on
BashandSlash its the final straw in the whole haystack of problems -
sound will forever stay broken - etc
The Call of Duty 5
project initially had potential - but a sequence of problems caused by
Treyarch such as the appalling BETA and stock game, useless patches for
the competitive gameplays needs, the announcement of Call of Duty MW2
by Activision, etc.
The game as it stands, I believe,
would have had hope - and isnt bad to play fully modded (I do believe
fully modded it is better than CoD4 - but im not a big fan of CoD4 any
more ) - its not going to be a competitive game even matching the scene
of CoD2 though
Call of Duty 4 will live on for another
year with someone keen flying the flag. I did have initial problems
with the new flag flyer 'MavLP' - and don't agree with all his
directions - but you can never have true perfection. What he has done
to the game HAS saved it. He has done a ton of good work - so much so
that I had believed he had taken my original Promod code when it was
first released. And I do share his vision of how the game should end
out - I was just reluctant to do those changes myself with CoD5 about
to hit the scene (which it hasn't). Even though I won't be playing the
game - my only suggestion to you Mav is to go along with the EU
majority and remove muzzle flash again!
I would like to
thank Neil 'Kboy' Kirk for all the time he has put aside for me, and I
believe he will be a great representative for whoever he stands for in
the future.
Also to Multiplay - who helped me with great servers and the tools I needed to do what I did.
Also to Jock Yitch - of Bash and Slash - for covering such a wide and
diverse range of content, all with passion and enthusiasm - and I will
continue listening in
I have gotten to know Ryan these past few months and I really appreciated his enthusiasm and smarts. He doffed his cap to us here at BASHandSlash and I return the salute. Ryan is a gamer's gamer. While his CoD:WW Promod garnered critical accolades amongst those that truly understand competitive gaming, he was stymied by a game that was not suitable for the S&D gaming CoD had embraced.
Ryan has a vision of how things should work and most times I think that he is ahead of the curve. He did great things with Promod for CoD4 and his CoD:WW ruleset was probably the way the competitive community should have gone. I am sure that a year down the road we will realize he was right.
This guy is a talented modder - one that actually taught some of the senior members of our community a thing or two during the CoD:WW post-release mod-fest that occurred (much to their surprise, might I add).
I have eulogized Ryan before, only to realize that we around arise on the third day, even after being declared dead and buried. I will not make that mistake again. I am sure Ryan will be around ...after all he still owes me a strat map or two.
Arrivederci Ryan (we will see you again!).
