BASH 102: Promod Live
Written by jockyitch
Thursday, 02 April 2009

This week we bring you another installment of our BASH FTW competition CoD specials where we discuss the goings-on in the upper tier of CoD’s competitive gaming scene.

Today, we are honored to have on Jaymie Clifford aka “Carlisle”, the modder of Promod Live, which just last week was voted by the exalted elite of Europe’s “The Cod Alliance” as the mod of choice for any and all CoD4 competitions in Europe.

Jaymie, a gamer and modder from the UK, has been termed Promod’s second-generation-coder. This is a nod to Ryan (Raf1), no stranger to BASH listeners, who initially dreamt up the original unified ruleset for CoD4.

On this program we ask Jaymie what was wrong with Promod 3? Why was a Promod Live required? Was it’s need an urgent reaction to the encroaching DAMN mod, which had been gaining popularity in North American CoD circles?

In addition to him telling us all about Promod Live (and Promod 4.0, which preceded it), we delve into the changes in strats that might have come up about with its introduction.

There was alot of e-drama that went on in Europe regarding this mod and we also touch on this topic as well.

Jaymie’s a very thoughtful gamer indeed and this is a good listen! Find out more about the mod you’ll be playing soon, right here on BASH.

SHOW NOTES:

Ladies and Gentlemen boys and girls welcome to BASH. 'm Jock the host of this Call of Duty webcast. This week we have another installment of our FTW specials where we discuss competitive CoD Gaming.

Today, we are honored to have on Jaymie Clifford aka Carlisle, the modder of Promod Live...the competition mod which was voted on by the exalted elite of Europe's The Cod Alliance as the *the* mod of choice going forward for CoD4 competition in Europe.

Ladies and Gentlemen BASH welcomes...Carlisle.

1. Jaymie, I remember the first time you ever contacted me, it was by email and it was back on January the 3rd of this year and the title of your email read: Mods! Please read. CoD4's future hangs in the balance!

Wow. That caught my eye.

Back then you were modifying raf1's Promod 3, into what would eventually become Promod 4...I guess people have called you Promod's second generation coder - after Raf1's departure.

What was wrong with Promod 3 and why did CoD4's future hang in the balance?

2. Why were you the one to make the mod? Why didn't you leave it for someone else to do?

3. Rumors I have heard were that another reason for doing a new Promod was the rapid approval of MavLP's DAMN mod over here in NA and its move into Europe. What was it about the DAMN mod ruleset that you and most of the folks across the pond, seemed to hate? After all it was gaining acceptance here.

- the muted Deagle?
- the impotent nades?
- the hitbox changes?

4. Go through the Promod 4 chronology.

There's been a lot of edrama going on in Europe over Promod since Raf1, the original Promod creator. Give us a quick summary of that.

There have been quite a few releases - some people would say too many releases. How did you get from Promod 4 to Promod Live -- which is the final incarnation of your comp mod?

Rumor has it that PromodLIVE was created in just 30 minutes by you and your colleague paradox.

5. You disappeared for a little while during this whole process. By disappearing you may have inadvertantly opened the door to other mods...in particular, one individual, Andreas "trivve" Göransson created Promod 4.40 which picked up a lot of followers.

6.

a) Tell us a bit about you. Could you run through your Gaming bio?
b) Is making this mod the highlight so far of your gaming career?

7. I've been following some of the posts on Tek9 and you have had a rough go sometimes. Being objective about things, there have been some downright nasty things said between Mav and yourself and even some between Raf1 and yourself. Did that affect you -- or was it more of the usual headgame crap that goes on between competitive guys?

8. A few days ago, the CoD Alliance (TCA) announced they had a winner in their poll to choose the next European ruleset. That winner was Promod Live.

Congratulations first of all.

What did you think when you heard that the TCA selected your mod?

9. I saw a post after your mod won, it was very eloquent and quite touching:

The thing I am personally most thankful is the support I personally recieved, and the chance to help the game. Anyone could of done what I have, anyone. I have a basic coding knowledge and even more basic modding knowledge. But these people gave me the benifit of the doubt and trusted what I churned out, dispite the fact that anyone with 2 brain cells to rub together could of done the same. I wouldn't of trusted a cock like me to do that. I am thankful that you did. So I can be pleased in myself that I helped this wonderful game and even wonderfulerer community.

That was brilliant stuff. Why did you need to write that?

Raf1 wrote a post just above this one and congratulated you. How are things between you two?

10. Give us a quick run through of what you think are the positive changes you have made to Promod 3.

11. You also provided Promod 4.0 NA to CEVO. When and why did they approach you on this?

Why do we need an "NA", why can't we unify things again like we did with Promod 3?
What were the differences in NA and Live?

12. Are you working at all with the TCA? Are they pushing for a worldwide unified ruleset?

13. CoD4 appears dead on this side of the Atlantic, what's going on in Europe. Do you fear the onslaught of MW2? Will that kill of CoD4 gaming over there?

14. What does the future hold for you? Will you be supporting Promod Live?
