Garetjax, Call of Duty Hall of famer, the man behind the original PAM
competition mod for CoD1 as well as CoDTV
(simular to HLTV) for the original CoD, has done it again! He's managed
to get Activision (Treyarch specifically) to buy into the latest
incarnation of CoDTV. Yup, Treyarch will apparently support CoDTV in
CoD:WW.
Though Treyarch has embedded the code hook for CoDTV
into CoD:WW, it will be up to community modders - like Garetjax - to
take advantage of this streaming technology. CoD TV will enable anyone
to upload their CoD gameplay stream to the internet for mass viewing.
Imagine creating a streaming "demo" recording that goes out live to the
net. No more mega-bandwidth lag issues for competitive play fans when
downloading games as the streaming concept requires very little
bandwidth. Of course...you need CoD:WW to watch the streams.
Check out Garetjax's site, codtv.tv, as it will be the nexus for live, world-wide game streams.
Imagine the CoD TV future: no more fuzzy low-bandwidth streamed vids
when you want to watch a live game. Live games are streamed right into
your own CoD:WW game - it's as though you were in Spectate Mode.
Big congrats go out to Garetjax on this one.
On a personal note, I am so stoked about this, given that I can
remember the day, months ago now, when Garetjax and I were IM'ing
Treyarch in an attempt to explain what CoD TV was all about. It was an
uphill struggle to get them to realize how important this feature would
be...but give'em credit they got it!
Kudos to them. Thanks Treyarch for CoD TV. Are you listening IW?
NOTE:
We will be featuring Garetjax in a lively discussion on CoD TV very, very soon!
