IW has pulled their official Fight Against Grenade Spam off YouTube. The reason? The video's acronym became a source of speculation that this was a social commentary (hard to miss that one eh?). Confused? Read this Brainy Gamer article.
Crazy, huh?
I understand the subtlety of the message now - I must admit I didn't see the sarcasm the first time around. But now that I see what they were doing here, IW obviously is not going after any minority with hate-speak. In fact, "gamer-speak" is what they're using. How many times do you hear theis acronym used in servers? Nevertheless, the use of this word obviously will bring on accusations of homophobic prejudice from the average public and IW should have known that.
It's almost as if I cannot shut my computer off for more than ten minutes before IW shoots themselves in the foot during these last stages of the MW2 release. Whether its causing Australians to want to ban the game for glorifying violence, or dissing large portions of their customer base or now, or becoming the butt (pardon the pun) of internet jokes...all these shenanigans seem to do is to increase the number of pre-order cancellations.
I have a pro-tip for IW...stop trying to market the game. You've done enough. The game was going to sell itself. You didn't have to do anything. The geniuses behind the marketing campaign should have just packed their bags and gotten on the "B" ark and left the engineers to do their thang.
And by the way...I still think I'm right, you guys forgot to bring the funny.
I could have swore IW went dark?
Guess not...In this video (note the original official video from IW was removed from YouTube - a copy has been added below), we get to see a suppressed sniper on sniper action against a snow-cammo'ed ghillie suit wearing enemy.
And, in yet another attempt to make you "famous", IW introduces the "Game Winning Kill" cam.
