The staff at the German PC gaming magazine PC ACTION had a chance to
take a sneak peek at Medal Of Honor Tier 1. Here is an English translation of the
original German article.
"We don't make games about politics. For
us, authenticity and the soldiers' honor are important."
With
this statement Greg Goodrich, executive producer at EA Los Angeles,
answers how Medal Of Honor will differ from the Modern Warfare series.
Goodrich took part in the EA Spring Showcase in London and presents a
new part of the campaign, showing the US Army Rangers at work.
The Rangers, their contribution dubbed "Sledghammer", clean up after the special ops Tier One Forces. The Tier 1 operators have already passed through the area, doing their surgical, stealthy best to eliminate the elusive targets. Now the Rangers slog through wiping out the rest. So the missions of these two combat
groups go hand in hand. The player changes roles several times while
the campaign jumps from one troop to the next.
Four volunteers,
one of them played by Goodrich's character, step forward to neutralize
an mg position in the mountains. Slowly the quartet climbs up the hill,
storms several stone barracks, kicks doors open on command and
eliminates many enemies with military standard weapons (assault rifle,
shotgun, combat knife etc). The projectile hit effects are impressive -
hit enemies are blown out of their shoes.
The three AI comrades
act during the offensive completely independent and turn out to be well
trained soldiers. Goodrich's soldier slides out of the sprint into a
cover, but the wall under fire falls into pieces bit by bit, so that he
has to move to different cover. When he is running out of ammunition, he
commands additional ammo from his colleagues. After a while all
elements of the HUD disappear, which reinforces the atmosphere.
According to Goodrich, the HUD can be displayed again every time by
pressing the correct key.
After the squad has found an armory,
there is a dialogue sequence and after they have fought up the hill
further, they see the mg position. Under heavy fire one of the AI
comrades throws red smoke grenade. Seconds later a combat jet passes and
destroys the mg position. The shells were danger-close and the squad
was nearly hit. While the smoke dissipates, the team moves towards a
small village on a high plateau.
Suddenly in one of the barracks
a cellphone rings.
BOOM!!!
End of presentation.
PCActions'
final words:
The action we have seen appeared extraordinarily
authentic and threatening. In addition to this, the shooting seemed to
be very realistic. I am absolutely looking forward to MoH!
